South Bend DD 3850 question
Well just got back from a local pull and the first hook on the new clutch and injectors. The truck ran really good and the clutch seemed to work great, right up to the end of the pull. Once we got to the end of the track it spun out and pushed the clutch in and everything seemed normal. Then pulled off the track, stopped and couldn't get it in to gear. Had to shut off truck and then restart in gear and took off. I then just worked the clutch a bunch of times, foward, reverse a bunch of times and then it seemed normal again.
Second pull it didn't seem to do it as bad but did it a little.
What could be causing this, just need to get some time on it? We probably had 75 miles on it of just driving it before this pull. Anybody else have and problems llike these.
Thanks for your help!
Dustin

So how do they break in a full blown pulling truck if they cant drive in stop and go.
I thought that it might of stuck but I would of thought that it would of don't when unhooking from the sled. But I was able to get it into reverse and the back in to 1st to drive off the track. Thats when it would release?
Thanks for the replys

Generally in stop and go traffic you're not launching from high rpms and slipping the clutch for a long time. The longer you let it slip the hotter it gets. Three seconds or less of slipping it should be fine. Maybe try a lower gear next time or get some launching advice from some other pullers.

guys in the Big HP pulling trucks have the resources/sponsors to replace the clutch every season. I assume most of us want our clutches to last longer than that. So just break it in with some city driving.
