I love my 3:55's. Only 2100rpm's at 80mph. I have gotten 22mpg highway, and i believe 23 culd be had . I would really like 4:10's for taking off, but im happy how it is. I actually wouldnt mind 4:10's to bad in my automatic, but the 5spd's are lower geared trannies, and the 4:10's make them scream at highway speeds.

May have to hold off on the gear swap for little while. I just bought new to me injectors and a tool/tank box combo that I couldn't pass on. May work on the sound deadening a little more and see what results I can achieve there for now. The fuel economy is not that bad with the 4.10, but the engine is working pretty hard at 75-80 mph so it's kind of loud. It doesn't bother me that bad except when I'm on the cell phone. Since I rely on the phone for business, it is pretty important that I can hear the call. The gear swap is one of my options in the sound reduction effort, I just hate to lose any low end pulling power, of course I usually start out in 3rd gear on the 6 speed anyway, so maybe the 3.55 is the best set up anyway. Still considering this, just may be a month or two.

If you dont know how to set up gears, it wont be that much cheaper to get an overdrive unit. The price I was quoted for a us gear was 2300 bucks. That is in alaska from six states distributing. They are all over the west coast. Gears with set up bearings and seals will cost around 5-600 bucks. NEW. Then installing will take many hours. I will bet around 12-14 hours for both axles. multiply that by shop rate. You will need a new carrier for the rear and I have seen them on ebay for 350 bucks for a limited slip. You will save some money, but this way you have low gearing for towing and high gearing for cruising. Getting driveshafts longer and shorter should only cost 200 max. I will let you know. I am 2 months out from getting one.

Seriously....look for someone looking to swap for 4.10's. Just trade axles.....everybody wins!

ALSO...anyone need a (1997) Dana 70 with a bad pinion bearing? It will need a rebuild and posable new gear set........just taking up space in my shop! Going to post in the clasifieds.....I think its a LS.
