some fass fuel ?'s

i am putting the fass fuel 150/150 pump on my truck and still using the stock filter. the line coming from the fass goes to the fuel heater if i am correct, i think the fass instructions said to take it to the lift pump, but showed a picture of the fuel heater. i hooked it up into the fuel heater so it is suppling the manual lift pump. is that the rite way to do it. Also i was wondering if the fass runs all the time when the key is on or if it has a flow switch in it where it only runs when it gets a draw from the lift pump. Honestly i put it on my truck because it is what everyone does and seems to recomend. but i dont quite understand what the benifit of feeding the mechanical lift pump is, other than seperating the air and fuel. am i rite on this. I think on the 98.5+ trucks they put it on because there lift pump is prone to failure. just some thoughts running though my head and could use some clearing up. thanks for any input

Is it the whole fass system with filters and all or is it just the pump?
