So, who has the thickest, gnarliest intercooler boots available?

The best boots are made of silicone with SS anti-ballooning rings; high-temp (500*F) boots will provide an additional ~100*F overhead in the thermal envelope - comes in handy for twins.
The best boot clamps are SS constant-torque T-bolts; they won't rust, have plenty of thread engagement & a stout capture head for plenty of clamping force, and the spring maintains the initial installed-torque tension during the engine's thermal cycles... the fact that silicone shrinks as it's temperature rises is often overlooked or unknown.
Of course, if the boot nipples (am I allowed to say that? ) don't have a bead roll on the end, it's something of an uphill battle to avoid blow-off at higher boost pressures.
Again - de rigueur for twins!

I apologize for what you went through with the old style boots. Any time you develop a product there are always going to be revisions made to improve the product. We have changed to a cross weaved material now which is much stronger than the old style. I know it is frustrating to have a failure, but if there is anything I can do for you on a new set let me know.

I have no problems with the blue (ford color) boots and do like the long threaded nuts providing a strip free thread. The idea of using a light spring to provide enough clamping force for the BD compound turbos is just inadequate to get the job done.
I am sure the heavy boots are better at holding under high pressure.

Looks like Piers is getting the good stuff made for all of us junkies again!

I would like to see clamps with 'rolled' edges. I must have had a boot expand a bit (baloon) because the edge of the clamp cut through the rubber boot!
This was on my secondary inlet boot...not my PDR boots. I removed all turbo boot clamps and smoothed and rounded the edges as best I could. Has held ...so far.
Your explanation on the oil in my primary makes more sense to me and sounds more reasonable than the explanation I got from someone at BD.... who said it was vacume pressure from the secondary??

About four years ago I bought a complete set of boots, radiator, and heater hoses on a group buy on the TDR. Very high quality (made by sFs), and came with Mikalor clamps. I don't know if the hoses are still available, but I think the Mikalor's may be, so it would be U.S. shipping. All of this came from:
