I tried 2 stroke oil. Ran quieter, but I didn't see a difference in the fuel mileage.

Did you mean Cetane?

But of course, the numbers are good though, I've seen them several places.

I won't re-post my MMO rant here, but that stuff will never go in any vehicle I use again. 50+yr old chemistry for a cutting edge modern injection system seems like a certain mismatch to me.

MMO did poorly in a lub study...
It all depends on what you want from an additive, some want mileage gains some want a well lubed pump & injectors
and everyone has an opinion... I use product X and its great! then you find out product X actually scores poorly, what do you do?? reasearch, reasearch research. I have more faith in the results of a test other than someones opinion from his/their use of a product,
Me I'm more interested in protecting my delicate VP, so I use 2 stroke oil, or Amsoil concetrate, for me mileage gains comes in second...BTW I likely buy more fuel than 90% of the folks on here, I burn 1 tank of fuel every 2 days and have for the last year and a half, at todays prices its 50$ a day.

I'll post this link again (its linked I'm sure in just about every automotive forum out there)
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=177728
folks forget that all that was tested was lub quality, not all the other things that additives bring to the table, just from the lub stand point I'm sold

Thanks for the link Nick! Glad to see the "Stanadyne Performance Formula"
is in the top ten.

Right now I'm running a smoky 1&1/2 gallons of used engine oil from my last change. I had a problem with fuel leaking into the oil so it only had 2-300 miles on it. If you want SMOKE, mix in your old engine oil. I'm sure the soot is bad for everything in the injection system, carbon buildup is bad as well. I used to run 2 stroke oil for the quieter Injection Pump and "lubricity" but with 6 quarts of used oil, I'm afraid to add more till my next fill up. I think cummins says you can add 5% or about 1.75 gallons but according to that lab test, used motor oil is nearly identical in lubricity to #2.

BB, let us know how that replacement VP works out.

It won't be long with THAT much used MO dumped in the tank.

Fuel Additive of choice.....

My vote is on 2cycle oil.... didn't notice any MPG increase, BUT, I did notice a MAJOR decrease in injector pump noise..... my truck is MUCH quieter since I started using the 2cycle oil last fall. I did empty a quart of SeaFoam into my tank about a month ago and it seems like I've had 1 to 1 1/2 mpg increase since then, think I will continue this every other month or so.

Before ULSD, even with my RV275's, EZ/Smarty, I consistantly got around 20 mpg overall. After ULSD, it dropped to 16/17 overall. I have tried a few things, but have consistantly used the marine 2 cycle from Wa Mart for the past several months. I usually fill up at about 1/2 tank, and add 16 oz.

At first, I immediatly noticed the motor ran a little quieter and the mileage increased back to about 19/20 overall. About a month ago it dropped again. I put it 3/4 can of Synergen 20+ Cetane, with no 2 cycle, and after one tank, the mileage was back up to 19/20. Just MY theory, but I think the 2 cycle built up in the injectors and the 20+ cleaned them out.
