Re:so NOW is 1,000hp possible? THE WEST
Western America, where all the East coast HP "dreams" come true
The short answer is.....1000HP will be proven on a dyno out West first. Sooner rather than later...... ;D
Joes truck was running a few HP low that day. There is/was more on tap. This is with parts that dont work like: stock 181 delivery valves, a single "Lag Hog" turbo, and a set of 370 injectors......
Yepper, stay tuned-its coming to a West Coast dyno event soon.
I like your responce Don, got a good chuckle out of me. Just wanted to know if some eyes were opened. I won't go into a debate with anyone on this thread, as most know how I feel about the east coast hp.

So do some of the other "non-believers" feel the same way?

Re:so NOW is 1,000hp possible?
fact of it's old news what good is 1000 hp on a dyno if it's never used and what good is a dyno number from Vegas that can't be repeated anywhere else. Like joe says, but rewored alittle bring it to Muncie Joe show us at a non partial site what you got Muncie is close to the middle for east verse west come on show the east what you got on a neutral ground.

Not to sound like a smart a$$ but Muncie is no where close to the middle of the country. I live 500 miles from the coast and it is another 1900 from me to Muncie. Last time I check the country wasn't much over 3000 miles from shore to shore. 1900 miles makes it hard for me to justify going. If we could work on a venue closer to the middle say in Kansas/Nebraska more of us Westerners might be talked into it. It might be something to consider in the coming years.
I just looked up some milage to give you an example. All are distances from muncie.
Atlanta 952 miles
Tampa 1050 miles
Washington DC 550 miles
Boston MA 950 miles
Boise ID 1895 miles
Las Vegas NV 1895 miles
Seattle WA 2297
LA CA 2135
By the looks of that Muncie is at least 1/6th of the way (500+ miles) closer to the east coast. BTW Seattle to Boston is 3058 miles.
Omaha NE is 1400+ from Boston and 1711 from Seattle WA. That's getting closer. Just some food for thought.

Re:so NOW is 1,000hp possible?
Anything is possible, lets look back at Drag Racing! When the M/T slick came out people raved about it, but who would have ever thought you could put a 28/10.5 non-W tire on Mustang weighing in at 3000 lbs and run a 1600-1800 HP small block turning in times like 7.80@180 MPH.

It is racing like this that makes me keep my stock tires at the track!

Jim

Re:so NOW is 1,000hp possible?
I would think from the mechanical side, 1000 hp is possible - main requirements being the additional boost and fuel flow to properly support that power level - but a BIGGER problem, is the increasing reliance upon computer control for engine operation - lots of guys can spin wrenches to make things go faster, but doing that, and also developing needed computer skills to match quite specific mechanical aspects is asking quite a bit. One thing we don't hear much about, as compared to gas engines, is development of better camshafts for our diesels...

Re:so NOW is 1,000hp possible?
Well, as *I* see it, the 5.9 Cummins isn't capable of 1000 hp without increasing max RPM up somewhere near 5000 RPM - to do that, will require a camshaft designed for that RPM range, and a fuel delivery to match - that means that you would need not only the CAPACITY in the injection pump, but also the variable timing that goes with it, as currently supplied (timing-wise) by the VP-44 or common rail type pumps. And THOSE types require computerized control.

The injection pumps in these engines operate not only as the fuel supply, but also like the distributor in a gas rig - and need the ability to alter timing as operating RPM is increased. Older, slower diesels could effectively use the VE and later mechanical pumps with their essentially fixed timing because the lower RPM ranges didn't require as much flexibility - as engine RPM is increased, more flexibility in fuel delivery becomes more critical - and as I said, I really think significantly higher HP than we are now seeing in the 5.9 will demand higher RPM...

At least, that's my theory...
