Go through the side of the pump!! Thats the way i did it, and it looks much easier to work with and less likely to lose parts in the pump than going through the top. Piers has instructions.

masseyman, for the install get your self some metric allen head bolts to replace all the factory ones on the afc and the ones on the plate,it will make things alot easier when making adjustments....

OK, I'll have to pick some up before I do the install. How long did you take you to put in the 3000gsk? I hope it doesnt take long. Can you not order things from Piers on the internet? dont you have to call them to order. What all do you have to take off to install the kit? Does piers or anyone have the instructions on here?

Install takes a couple hours. Yes. I guess you have to call Piers. Doesent look like you can just order online. Piers has instructions for going through the side. You can go through the top, but it sure looks a lot harder to me.

I'd suggest going thru the top to do the minor adjustments. Like if you are just tightening a couple clicks(poor man's GSK), or adjusting your new set. Otherwise, installing a new set is much easier going thru the side.

MasseyMan, I just did the 3k GSK install this weekend on my otherwise stock 97 5-speed. I went through the side port like the instructions recommend that Piers sends with the springs. I used the alternator nut and 7/8 socket to turn the engine over to expose the springs and the prescribed magnet to extract the springs from the post. Be wary that you may have one or more small shims under the smaller springs that must also be removed. My truck had one thin shim under each spring pack. Made me kind of nervous at first, fretting that I might drop one down inside the pump, but I didn't. Just take your time and you'll get through it fine. With just this change alone I feel like a have a new truck to play with. Before the install mine would de-fuel starting about 2500 or so and by 2700 that was all she wrote as far as having any real power. Now she pulls strong up to 34-3500 and the power curve is much platter and more consistent than before. I can't believe the difference and I'm sure you won't either. Like many before have said, it's probably the biggest or best bang for the buck. It will definitely put many smiles on your face.

PS On another thread about GSK someone wrote that using a 22mm socket to remove and install the side port plug worked better due to a tighter fit. They were right. I highly recommend this instead of the 7/8 socket the instructions say to use.

Yeah. Its an awesome mod. I think it helps a truck with a stock auto even better than a 5spd too, because it makes so much better use of the stock converters high stall speed. Its a great mod no matter what setup you have.

You will forget about your lockup switch for a little while. You will like turning 2800RPM's everytime you put your foot into it It makes the truck pull a LOT harder all the way through. Make sure, and keep us updated.

Mine now hazes at WOT, where it wouldnt before, but nothing different other than that. Smoke is OK, but performance is better. Check my gallery for a pic of my truck smoking. I have enough smoke for now . Get a plate if you want more smoke. Just watch your tranny after that.
