Smarty Tuner

Smarty Tuner
I've got a 2000, 5.9, 4x4 and I'm thinking of buying a tuner or programmer for my truck. Just wondering what the difference is between the two? Also my truck is pretty much stock except for the auto trans that is being built. How much horse power can I expect from the Smarty Tuner? Is that product the only one available for my truck? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Didn't know there was two, I've only seen the one tuner. which do you recommend? I went into the DTR store and I saw one, guess I need new glasses. What I was looking at didn't say how much horsepower my engine would gain. Everything I've read says Smarty is the way to go. appreciate the reply!

I have a Smarty on my '99.
I think it is about 50-75 hp. I've had it for a long time so I haven't changed it a lot.
I generally use it on prog.#1 which is just additional timing. This gives the best mpg. I tested it. #3 adds timing and fuel. You really need EGT gage when towing here if you tow heavy. I get 18-19 in the winter and 20-21 in the summer. 13-15 towing my 34 ft GN 10k.
The thing I like is that it gave me an upgrade to have idle up and 3 cyl in the winter. Really helps warm up. It starts very nice also even without the block heater. I also like the built in code scanner. This item alone has saved me the cost of the Smarty several times over.
If you change tires you can adjust the speedo with the Smarty too.
If you have emmission checks you can detune the computer to 1/2 power and you will pass the toughest emmissions test.....You won't be going very fast however haha.
It also adjusts the de-fueling limit from 27-2800 rpm to way into the 3k range. Probably better with the auto trans than the 5 spd. I hardly ever get to 3k except towing really heavy up a grade.
For whatever reason you can unload the program and it leaves no trace on your computer. The 24 valve are all out of warantee now so this isn't too important but it is there.
You can also stack other boxes but personally I don't feel it is necessary. If you really need that much more power...get a bigger truck.
