In the manual it states that the smarty is not recommended for heavy towing. Pretty vag in my opinion so what do you guys think heavy towing is compared to lite towing haha? Any ideas? Also how long could a guy expect a stock auto tranny to last with the smarty turned up?

I thought that was only for fuel saver?? timing too aggressive or something.. I tow on 3 5 7 9 all the time no issues, watch EGTs with a stock charger, if you have stock injectors you will be fine no matter what I would imagine

Yeah, the warning about heavy towing is for the #1 program, which is the fuel saver setting with aggressive timing. The other ones are fair game for towing. I run my all the time when towing, usually on #7.

I've towed pretty good on #9 on stock sticks and #3 as is now.

I leave #1 in for commuting to work, I really do grab 3 MPGs on #1.

I've been trying #1 for the past couple of trips, not seeing much difference in mileage. But it is nice to be able to run on cruise and have the truck behave.

I'm dying to try this new Smarty SW.

I can't honestly say I saw any real difference in MPG with SW #1 over the other SWs. But my smarty has the oldest SW in it of all-- it's an old Beta unit.

I *DID* notice that EGTs run 50-100 cooler on #1 in thin air, which points to better efficiency imo.

I get 20mpg on the hwy with my truck even on "kung fu."

awsome, so noone is running with a stock auto tranny huh? This might sound dumb but what is this new smarty sw, is there a new upload for the smarty? I just got the thing and i really like it. My gas mileage went from 18's to 22's with just the smarty on level 3 and the new fuel pump but that shouldnt have anything to do with it.

The new software will probably be avaialble online by Monday. The new software for the S03 has a user selectable speed limiter.

The ultimate valet switch. Programable from 25 - 250 mph

The new software also takes away the 85 mph cruise control limit

I just got a smarty on wednesday. I absolutely love it. I sold my edge comp and guages and have only a smarty. Just got back from towing a 24' Gooseneck stock trailer with 3 1000+lbs. bucking bulls from N. Texas to NE Oklahoma (700 miles round trip grossing about 17k) with cruise set on 70 although the truck pulled down to ~63 on some of those real long gradual 2 mile hills. No guages, and used SW#5. Have no idea on EGTs but must not have been too high.....truck still runs as good as ever.

ps. keep an eye out in this section for my revised review of the smarty. I posted up a while back about my dissatisfaction when TRYING a smarty. Now that I own one......and have pulled with it.......I owe DTR and smarty a huge apology for my previous statements. I absolutely cannot believe how wonderful it is and it keeps growing on me daily. Did I mention this thing is incredible and I dont want to think about having to get a newer (non 24v) and lose what I enjoy so much???

I don't know where all you tow, but you might want to be careful with the Smarty on #5 when towing heavy.

Last June I carried a 2500+# camper on a 2000+ mile trip to Colorado. With the Smarty on #5 the EGT's would get not much higher than 1000*, or so, untl I reach some of the steeper grades in Colorado. With the grades and thin air, I could reach 1400* pretty quick. I cut the Smarty back to #3 and the EGT's were much easier to control. My RV275's probably added a little to the temps.

I never really get out of TX and OK and rarely gross over 17k. I have stock injectors and 4" exhaust also but I did sense she was getting warm on some of those really long grades since the water temp would begin to pull up and the cruise would have the pedal on the floor for the entire duration of the hill.

Well, with it on #1, cruise behaves almost like stock. No more watching the boost gauge run up and down while going down the highway. When I finally get around to putting the new software on my Smarty, I'll give the higher levels a try.

Now if it was just easier to switch from #1 back to a higher level for around town. #1 is nice on the highway, but I miss the low end driving the streets.

If you're towing really heavy, #2 is the safest Smarty SW imo other than the half-power setting. Taking out a little timing will lower piston operating temps, even if EGT goes up a little bit.

Be careful about going to the new program. I think SW #0 & #1 are the anti theft and you cannot go back. I asked about going back and the folks in Italy said it could cause the ECM to crash.
