SMARTY and injector combinations.

I got the BOMBing bug riding in my buddy's 98.5 24v with a Comp and RV275s. I drove it a few times and everytime I jump back in my truck, I wonder where the power went.

I would like to purchase a Smarty and a set of EDMed injectors for my 24v. With so many people recommending getting a larger injector over a smaller injector, I'm confused as which to buy. I don't want to tap the pump wire (too skeered!) so that means no Comp or TST stacks--but it also means not being able to adjust the power level up or down on the fly . How big of injectors stacked with the Smarty will the HX35 handle? Do I need to pop for a turbo?

The truck will occasionally haul a 9,000lb toyhauler to the dunes, but I don't tow on a regular basis. I bought the truck two months ago and it took over my daily driver overnight. I don't want to kill my mileage either.

I am still undecided on which lift pump (with fp gage) to choose from, but that mod will be done before I buy the Smarty. Con ofe soon after that.

Thanks for your input.

I run a Smarty and Jammer stage 5 (150hp) injectors with my stock trans and turbo. The trans isn't going to take much more of the beating it's been taking . Maybe someone else will chime in about your 6 spd. My plans are to upgrade the trans, get a bigger turbo, and then possibly add another box, but just the smarty and injectors makes a huge difference . You tow more than I do so you might consider a bit smaller injector than 150 hp. I think something in the 100 hp range would be great even with a stock turbo, provided you keep an eye of the egts while towing.

Go ahead and tap the wire using a comp or TST. You know your going to eventually. I've run my Smarty with my old DD-3's and it's a pretty good setup. But I'm so used to the Drag Comp now it's feels slow when i turn it off.

I run my Smarty on #7 with my RV275's and stock clutch (190K) with no problems. I don't do a lot of jack rabbit starts or boosted launches, but I don't have a problem. It's a good drivable combination, but can get a little smoky if your not careful.

As far as a lift pump goes I just installed a FASS 95GPH on my buddies '01 a few days ago and bypassed the stock pump. He went from having ZERO PSI at even idle to 17PSI at idle and all cruising speeds and he can only pull it down to 15PSI. I really like the system, plus it was as easy as pie to install If you decide to get one Garrett at PureDieselPower.com will get you fixed up!

I am running the Smarty and DonM's F1 Mach 1.6's. I am all smiles
(I did spin the clutch in 6th gear though on level 7, I should have down shifted )
If you are careful, you will be ok.

For the abuse it's going to see, if your clutch is still stock, you must really hate it.
