Smarty....idle up when cold
#32
Mine did it this morning...first winter with the CTD (let alone any diesel truck for that matter) so I'm glad I saw this thread otherwise I wouldn't know if it was normal...I drove from my house to a local deli parked outside and left the truck on...as I come out I notice that the idle doesn't sound the same as it did each morning I start it up...sure enough I get in and the tach is pegged at 1200 up from 800...as soon as I depressed the brake it went back to 800...cool feature. When I get a smarty I hope this is still there as well as the 3 cyl mode, now it'd have to be really cold like -15 for that to happen, don't know if we'll get that in MD though??

Mine idled up yesterday morning, and the overhead showed showed 34 degrees. I guess it was colder under the hood, or there is a discrepancy between the IAT and the temp sensor for the overhead. Yeah, that 3 cylinder mode will get your attention.

Bob, did you post the info about the cruise control fix?? I haven't seen it on here.
I will call you Monday to talk "shop"... I think it will be easier than trying to get results on the web.

Whooo ho, it idled up and ran on 3 cyl today. It was -5 deg f and the truck had sat outside not plugged in for at least 18 hours. I got in and cycled the grid heater twice and it started right up. After about 1 minute it went into high idle. About a minute later it went into 3 cyl. It was so cool. never heard this before. haha I had to get out and walk a 1/2 block back just to hear it. It's so loud it is funny. Huge cloud of smoke but mostly vapor I think.
I had to move on as it was blowing all the smoke into the neighbors backyard.
Within about 7-10 minutes I had heat coming out of the heater so it must be pretty effective.
