Talking Smarty....idle up when cold

WWhhoo hooo. I have idle up and didn't know it. It was about 15 F today and the truck had sat for about 14 hours. I started it up and just let it idle so I could get out and brush off the snow. After about 15-20 sec the motor began increasing idle speed by itself.!!! all the way up to 1300 rpm.

I swept off the snow for about 5 minutes or so and got back in. The temp gage was just moving off the peg and the idle was still at 1300. The truck was up against the curb in about a foot of frozen slush. I tried backing up and going forward but it was tough going against the curb. I finally got the right dual up on the curb and I was able to back up about 50 yds to the intersection and got out. By then the truck was warmed up.

Anyway I love the Smarty again. I can't wait untill it is -15 now. haha Maybe it will get into 3 cyl mode.

I just bumped the fuel pedal and it dropped right back to normal idle.

wait till you hear the 3 cylinder cutout working. Sounds like the engine is ready to come apart. If you have people that live close to ya, they will love you after that kicks in.

I thought the 3 cylinder mode was just on newer trucks, this was an option in 99? What temp does it come on at? And is that feature enabled with the high idle feature?

I tried Tates Smarty and it left the stupid high idle update on mine - I hate it. I already have an exhaust brake and a manual high idle switch.

D'oh!

The factory software should be able to disable it. A friend I work with, is a former Chrysler automotive tech and he went back to his old shop (dealership) and enabled the highidle features on his newly aquired 2nd Gen with the ******* ship software. so you should be able to reverse it.........thats funny though bet that was a surprise to have it ramp up on its own

Anyone know what temp the 3 cyl idle kicks in? Mine will ramp up to 1200rpm, but I don't think it idles on 3. Gets down to single digits here and that's about it. (not cold in other words)
