Well, the smarty is adjustable on the fly. I have the Edge Juice, with Attitude and it's great! I'm not looking to race with it, it's more for top end power than front end. Which is good, cause it's a little safer in that aspect in towing real heavy loads. It does get after it though, now that I've got a rebuilt tranny and a fuel system. It'll do what I need. It all depends on what he's gonna use the truck for. So far I'm real pleased with my edge. Super easy to install, at least for me. I guess if it's just everyday driving and racing every once in a while then the Smarty may be a better way to go. He'd better either have that tranny already rebuilt, or have the money to rebuild it. Mine only lasted 3 months before I had to have it rebuilt. Just my .02 worth.

I think it would be best to get the Edge or Quadzilla. The Smarty is not adjustable on the fly, you have to pull over and change programming through the OBDII port like any programmer. Most guys on here seems to be upset with Smarty because of the lack of updates for the 24v trucks. I don't think Bully Dog has anything to advanced for our year range trucks. I'm happy with my Edge and I think most others are as well. Eric

The Smarty is adjustable on the fly in the sense that you can change it with the right pedal.

I liked my Smarty. The lack of updates was a bit disappointing, but it doesn't change the fact that it still wakes up the truck quite noticably. I had a Drag comp, and wasn't super impressed with it. But it does have more power than a Smarty alone. But the Smarty feels much stronger on the bottom end than the comp did.

I don't know of anything that's as strong on the bottom as a Smarty-- but I haven't tried Quad's XZT+, and that's supposed to be very strong, also.

Bob's hinting of a new Smarty update that's supposed to have lotsa more gooder things to offer....

You can change the BD on the fly.

I've heard a lot of good things about Smarty...and Edge. However looks like Qzilla is onto some good products as well...their XZT+ seems to be a hot topic on the 2nd gen forums these days.

People talk about smarty and it's bottom end power, I do not think low end will every be a problem for a cummins. I love my newly installed Edge juice w/attitude. It rocks. And easy to install...Go with the edge!!
