Smarty or Comp for first fueling mod?

Hi all!

I was curious about which fueling mod would be the best to go with first, the Smarty or the Comp.

Im going to have gauges, exhaust, and intake before I buy either one, so a problem with egts or fuel pressure would not go unnoticed.

Basically, I would love the Smarty, but I would love to have more than 60-70 hp, so Im leaning toward the comp. However, the features of the Smarty make it very appealing. I would love to have some smoke to fill the window of a ricer every so often. So I would love to have the comp unless the Smarty makes some substantial.

I love the low-end response that the smarty is supposed to contain, but as for smoke and sheer enjoyment, which would be better out of the box?

Thanks in Advance!!

The comp would be easier for switching on the go......you can go from turtle to full on KILL mode with a push of a button. Where the smarty you have to stop and download the next level. Both are great.......it just depends on how much you will be changing betweent the levels. I love my Comp!!

Your clutch won't like the Comp for long!

The Smarty will throw a good cloud... pre boost, if on #9 ..... and is a lot more fun for daily driving (less than WOT)!

But I understand the Comp is hard to resist!

i have to add another for the comp my clutch lasted with the comp until i added bigger sticks but i would worry about another pusher pump like a fass pump in there for sure. i like the fact that u can t turn on and off as well as adjust levels all while driving. and for smoke ya u would love it haha.

Hey guys those are great replies, thanks. I do like the fact that you can adjust the power on the fly with the comp, but the econ. setting on the smarty is starting to win me over. Since hi-perf. is usually only a weekend thing for me, the economy mode is probably selling me at this point.

Although I know there is probably nothing in comparison to the smoke cloud on 5x5 on the comp, im hoping the smarty will throw enough smoke to let people know not to gun it at the stop light next to me!!!

If you would, Keep the replies coming!!!! Thanks

Well you have a new vp, right? the comp will void the warrenty, some thing to think about. Maybe some one in your area has a smarty and you can try it out. I have here of Bob sending one out to try, don't know if he still does or not. It would be worth a try

Dont let the fuel economy setting fool you. I ran the comp on 1x1 with the jammers III's and get 15mpg in town and 18 on the highway( hand calc). When I ran the smarty in fuel saver I got the same results +/- .3 mpg. I also ran the smarty on #9 with the injectors and will RIP from 1200-2000 then it falls on its face pretty hard. I have the MAP unplugged and dont notice a ton of difference when the comp is turned up pretty high. YES, there is a difference but the top end of the comp makes up for it in my book.

Talking

knowing waht i know now i would look for a used comp first, try it on ez mode then tap the wire when u feel like it.the comp fuels way harder than the smarty, with my comp on 3-3,i got the same fuel gains as the smarty on fuel mode.your probaly gonna end up getting both anyway,if u get the smarty first you will be bored soon and always wonder what a comp would have been like.a used comp will be like half the price of a smarty also.try a comp first then when that gets boring and your clutch is still ok try a smarty or some sticks.

I liked the Smarty more than the comp, but I never did have a stock truck with the Smarty. Comp will put you in your seat, but I never really found it that much fun on the lower levels. On sub-level 1, it seemed like it was defueling until it hit 10 psi, then it would take off. With the Smarty, there is no defueling on the bottom end, and is nice and smooth. Combine that with different softwares, updatable, DTC reader, and you've got something hard to beat!

Yeah, the VP has only 10k on it, and i would kinda like to leave it be for awhile (i dont feel like dropping down a grand for a year or so). I will be getting both at some point in the near future, but im still torn between the two.

Once the Smarty gets by 2000 rpm, how hard does the power real slack off? I know that it wont fuel like the comp, but will it still fuel over stock past that rpm?

Keepem cummin guys!!! Thanks

Will the comp stack with the hypertech power programmer? If not what would be a good combo if any? Or should I sell the hyper and start over?

The smarty will fuel up the 4000 rpm if you have the right combination of parts.

3500 should be easy

I just installed a Smarty on my truck last week. I'm very happy with it except I barely get anymore smoke out of it compared to stock. Which I guess is good if you look at it from an EGT point. I just wanted more smoke for the occasional convertible a$$hole...

I never had a Comp, so no experience there.

Once I go through my tranny I have a Redline box I'm going to stack on the truck along with some bigger sticks, bigger turbo, etc...
