Smarty ???

I just bought a smarty 2 weeks ago and love it. Lent it to my buddy to use on his 01 for pulling, stacked with his Quad (hits 4200rpms now) But now my step brother wants to try it on his 98.5 and wont read, says something about cant read ecm software. Clears codes tho. Tried it on the 01 and my 99 and works fine. Whats the deal?

Is it a 12 valve?
The Smarty is programmed specifically for a number of different engine systems for the cummins. The 98.5 is different than the 99-00 and 00-01.5 and 02 as far as I know.

Smarty for a VP44 truck should work on any Dodge truck witha VP44...

could be an issue with the ECM on the truck... I'd call Bob directly.

When Smarty first came out, if Vin# and stored SN's in ECM did not match, the Smarty would freeze up.
I had to send mine in to Bob after it would not return a CTD to stock because the engine had been swaped out.
I suspect Marco changed this so they just won't work when #'s don't all match.
Different engine than came from factory in SB's 98.5?

In any case, call Bob Wagner with specifics...

Its a 24v and has worked on every other truck we tried and bought from a guy with a 01 so. There could have been a ecm swap or something on my SB's truck but were not sure, only thing i know is he had it in last winter and changed somethings in the ecm so... I will maybe call Bob on it then.

The Smarty software will not update speedo (abs) corrections on a truck not outfitted with ABS. My friend's 98.5 loaded up Smarty fueling software just fine for testing, but it rejected any attempts to change the speedo. His truck was ordered without ABS from the factory.
