Jeff: Does it surge with the cruise control on all smarty SWs? If you have the vac operated CC you can pull the vac supply line to the servo and insert a small pipe from a spray can that will reduce the diameter of the vac line and dampen the cruise.
about the loss of power- on which smarty level did you dyno? If you read around here many folks say that SW3 has most power on the dyno with a fueling only box. If you use an odd number SW and have the comp you might have too much timing.
If you are really discontent you should contact the vendor and try to work something out.

The smarty was never sold as a high HP adder. It's a little power adder. But they made it mainly for driveability which it drastically increases. I don't think my smarty has ever added over 20hp but I'm not to concerned about that. The cruise control is a simple fix. Just do what AlpineRAM suggested.

 

Thanks for the info Alpine Ram I'll give that a try and see what happens. It surges on all settings I have tried which I believe was 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9, the higher the worse it surges. I knew about using even settings only when stacked with the comp, I used setting 8 on the dyno. As to driveablity it does give slightly quicker throttle response but I certainly don't understand all the hoopla or the price. If I were to get a do-over it would be a Drag Comp or a set of Mach 4's instead of wasting my money on a Smarty. Jeff

 

Jeff- I went from an Edge Pulse (like a comp with a max. level 4 and no remote) with Mach3s to new Mach3s and a smarty. My impressions are very favourable. It's not about all out power or dyno power, but it's about better driveability. On the mountain roads I usually drive I like it much better now. I think you should try it with the smarty solo and SW 5- I know you don't have enough injector for your turbo without the fueling of the Comp but you'll see where it's heading.
My reasoning about the higher SW levels performing worse on the dyno is that maybe the Add on box gets some misinformation from the ECM regarding throttle position. If my reasoning is correct the ECM sends out the info about throttle position via CAN bus and it might be that this info shows EG only 80% power so that the box won't fuel hard.

AlpineRam, I am 90% sure I'm going to send my Comp in for the Hot upgrade and when I do I will run the Smarty solo until I get the Comp back like you recommend. I have run it with the Comp turned off but not for very long and not with the Comp harness disconnected, and we'll see if my opinion is still the same, fair enough ? Jeff

I hope you don't think that I'm trying to tout the smarty as the one and only good thing (I am not earning any money for smartys sold) but I think if you've got some issues wit either the smarty or maybe something else in your truck I may throw in my 2c to help solve them.
When you ran your smarty with the comp off I think there might have been some trouble with the boost fooling the comp does so that the smarty didn't see correct boost . I'm very interested in your results.
