yeah i have a smarty and it is almost useless...there are guys who like it although i only have it to read codes and for high idle...other wise it would have been on EBAY the day after i bought it...and yes i have mine stacked with a drag comp...i would only recomend it if you are looking for high idle or else if u wanted to read you codes..

[QUOTE=SO5.9;1358853 explain to me under what conditions and mods a smarty would be the best option.[/QUOTE]
Now if you had started this thread with this question, instead of being two pages into it, I probably would say:
1. Do some research and figure out what you want your truck to be; Puller, Dragster, Dyno King, Toy Hauler etc.
Start with getting the "basics" covered; gauges (see you have them), exhaust, intake and fueling issues (LP issues, VP44 issues) and your clutch
Then figure out your "power" needs/wants. Injectors, Fueling Boxes (Edge, TST) or programmers (Smarty, the "only one").
You need to be careful going power enhancers first, you've got the gauges, is one of them a fuel pressure gauge? A surefire way to ruin your day is to lose FP and cook your VP$$.
Go here and read up on the Smarty www.madselectronics.com, it will give you "why" so many speak highly of it.
As for your Fireturd, who cares? You sold it!

Drag comp, Mach 4's, 62/12 turbo (or 35/3b twins) South bend dual disk, fuel system and all your worries are gone, along with whatever car you stated that you wanted to pass.
As far as reliability, your VP44 will die. Not just saying that, it just probably will.

Ive got 4" exhaust in the box, a holley blue now keeps my fp in good check and I want a dragster pickup. Back to the "fireturd", i sold it to my brother and can go buy it back cheap if you are indicating that you want some and will drive to meet me at a track. Anyway, this is about a smarty not my old car. Im tired of messing with this thread so I wont be back since it seems I am in the wrong by not saying the smarty is the greatest thing in life. I was just telling everyone I was not as impressed as I thought I was going to be. itaintnohemi seems to be the only other one who has made the mistake of buying one and is rational enough to admit it was not what he thought.

TST/Smarty/155hp injectors/turbo/clutch. That combo there should put you around 500hp and oughta get you in the 14's or maybe high 13's if you can shift it fast enough.
Like everyone has said, the smarty is not a power box and it was never designed to be. As a matter of fact when I let people drive mine I tell them that you won't notice a big difference at WOT. It's the daily driving that it improves so much. And that's why I bought mine. My heavy power hitter is my TST COMP. It's a 180hp box. But I don't run that everyday cause it's smokey and the throttle is touchy with it. So I run the smarty and just the injectors. Nice and smooth power and it made 361hp and around 800 something torque. If you want pure raw power then buy a comp or TST or Juice or even better a blue chip Redline. But if you want a easy going daily driver with plenty of low end then get a smarty and a good set of injectors.

Back when I was is high-school, I had a buddy that had a Firebird, the rest of us had Camaros. In jest, we referred to his car as "The Fireturd". When I read your statement about about your 'bird never losing to a diesel. It made me laugh and reminded of the 'turd. Didn't intend to get to you like that.
There is alot of useful info on this board, take the time to find it.
Have fun and good luck with your truck.

If you want an all out drag truck you should have started with an auto or plan on switching to one soon. Diesel trannies are backwards from hot rod gassers. Diesel need an auto to keep boost up, thats where we make our power. THATS where the SMARTY comes in, it creates boost very soon and then lets your other mods, TST, comp, injectorsetc. keep it there. I to tried the smarty with 100hp injectors and it wasnt what I was looking for, I had a stock turbo and 430hp worth of fuel, spooling the HX was not issue. If I had a set of twins or a big single, I would own a SMARTY.
So you have the gauges and fuel pressure, I would say find a comp, or odrag comp and set of jammer nozzles and see if this truck is going to do what you thought it would. Better yet, save the money, ride in someone elses heavily modded truck, see if thats what you want. For me, I thought I wanted a fast 24v VP44 truck, after a year of mods and having a 430hp daily driver and killing a VP44, its not, I want a Common Rail Truck and now my 24v is almost bone stock.
If you want an all out drag truck, experience will show on this board that the VP trucks are not the way to go. 12v's and Common Rails are best suited for that. But dont get me wrong, alot of guys, including me, love the 24v. If you want an all out drag truck dialy driver I think there are better avenues, not saying it cant be done, but if can be done more efficient. And trust me, after killing a few VP's youll want a 12v or a common rail really really bad, like me.
Hope this helps,
Jamie
