Smallest primary turbo for towing twins?
Say you wanted a set of twins for strictly towing. I'm not looking to make 600hp just want to be able to pull the passes we have here at the speed limit without having to drive by the pyrometer.
Would say a hx50 with a 17cm wastegated housing be big enough? How does this turbo compare in size to the typical turbo used, ht3b, ect..?
I do realize that I don't have near enough fuel right now for twins.

I would say an HX50-55 is too small...but anything below 450hp, with your hybrid on top you should be OK. Personally, I would find an HX55 with the bigger compressor wheel, and a 17cm wastegated housing...it will spool good, but move a bit more air for top end pulling....you never know when you'll need to drop a gear!
As long as you keep the power sane, and check drive pressure, you should be fine.

The k31 works really well down to just under 400 hp. With a stock turbo on top at 425hp you can't hardly tell the difference between a single stock turbo and the twins. Plus the wastegate allows you to control your max boost very well. It spools fast and has a nice sound that starts at about 7psi letting you know it is coming online. At 425hp you can take your pyro out cause it will never go above 1100. If that.

The HX-50 is only about 10% smaller (in airflow)than a HT3B, but the 17cm2 housing is much smaller than normally used. But with the wastegate, like Chris said, may be ok for lower HP, just for towing!

Yeah this truck is a towing vehicle and up here at this elevation I need all the air I can get, the highest rpms I can pull right now are about 3200 and thats it with a slight haze, the only problem is pulling the long passes I have to drop to 3rd gear cause I can only use about half throttle because of egt's.
So really I just need a little more air on the top end, the spoolup of the hx35/12 is nice especially towing and I do not want to lose that.
Thanks for the input!!
