Fred; I was thinking the 14 cm.
JIT; I'll keep you in mind.
I'm at 5200 ft so this 64/65/14 starts spooling around 1400-1500. I ported this housing and stock manifold. Not sure if it helped as I did so when I bought it.
I am also looking into getting the next turbo professionally ported and maybe high temp. coated.

All the talk of wheel sizes and what not, I'm confused on which size goes with which turbo? Can someone list the different wheel sizes for the following three turbos?

PS62/14
SPS62/14
Silver62

Same compressor
PS62/14 65 turbine
SPS62/14 71 turbine
Silver62 74 turbine

The super and silver series also include some wastegate improvements. The 65 would be quickest to 10 psi. The 71 would be quickest from 10-45 psi. The silver bullet turbine is supposed flow like the 71 with a wider powerband and less surging.

Some more info; The turbos from HTT are or almost are, identical to the I.I. turbos I believe.
So PS62/65 = HTB2 62
SPS 62/71 = "71 series" 62
ANY of these turbos can be had with a 12 cm/.70 A/R or 14 cm/.80 A/R housing.
BD Super B Special = 64/71/14
Hope I got all that info correct.

A 62/65/12 will spool the fastest and be the fastest from idle to full boost. Running 65 vs 71 at 10 psi and mash it, the 71 may build boost faster. I have no knowledge about the Silver 62.

Good thing about the 65 turbine is you can run both 12,13,14, and 16 cm housing, with the 71 turbine, you are limited to 13 cm Stainless, 14cm cast, or 16 cm stainless

A fellow at I.I. said I could get the super phat series with 12 cm housings.................not that I want one.
If what you say is true, then I guess I was wrong.

Keyboard engineer approved! Does the market seem less mystical now?

If it spools that good from 10-50, I want one.
Moules; Do you know what kind of power your making?
I will give you a good analysis of these turbos. I bought a HTB2 64/65/14 & couldn't get it to spool until 1600 & peak boost was not until 2000rpm which made egts go to 1700* before it would light....turbo tried to play the game of "catch up", but you can't get those temps to come back down at this point. This is while towing 15k# running 200hp Dragon flow 10 hole injectors. I traded the housing to HTT for a 12 & it was maybe 50 rpm faster, but 150* hotter [1850*]. I then traded the turbo to HTT for a 62/65/12 & it was a big improvement, it would spool at 1200rpm & kept egts in check towing, but 1700* wot. I then got the 14 housing & dropped temps by 50* overall which was a big improvement when towing heavy. I called Paul at HTT & he told me that they had a new turbo design that needed testing which had a 71 turbine wheel & he would let me be the guinea pig. I got the Super Stock 62/71/14 & never looked back, my temps went down to 1600*wot, but towing 15k# never went over 1350* if rpms were over 2000 before the big hills. I then got a idea to try dropping one size on injectors to Industrial Injections 4 flow 150hp injectors & that was the ticket. I now don't see more than 1300* towing 15k# through mountain terrain & wot only see 1300* with wastegate set at 45psi running sw2, 5x5 wot. I see 10# boost by 1300rpm & peak boost by 15-1600rpm. It is a awesome combo that tows great & sled pulls well yet puts 500hp+ on the rollers. Hope this helps you guys decide.

That goes along with my theory and what the shops have told me.
Jumping from a 62 to 64 compressor side wheel is probably the same lag or worse then going from a 65 to 71 turbine wheel.
If most of this is true, than why bother with a 64 or 66 compressor side in the 65 and 71 series turbos when you can move up to the larger exhaust wheel (ie. 65 to 71 or 71 to a 74) and run a smaller compressor wheel to cool better and spool as fast or faster.
My mind is made up. I.I. SPS 62/71/14 or a HTT 71 series 62/14 "super stock".
Was also told I could/should pick up 10-20 hp.

Just installed a SPS 62. Seems to spool identical to the old setup. It might be stronger above 70 mph........need more seat time.
I'm at 5200', 50* outside, 3.54s, 4th gear I show 10 psi @ 1650, 20 @ 1750,
30 @ 1850, 40 @ 1950 and spikes up to 46 or 47 before it settles down to 43.
Have not tried it yet with water/meth.
I need to port match it now and re-test as there is a gross mismatch between my ported stock manifold and new turbine housing.
Just bought a ATS exhaust manifold too!

That sounds pretty close to what I saw with the SS13, but with the PS62 I was seeing 10psi by 1500. I felt it was too slow. and for your altitude, that's pretty good. How's the smoke on normal drivability?

I hope this info can help, I have been running a sps62 and I am at sea level alt, here are the boost/rpms 1400-1450 10 psi 1600-1700 25+psi and 2000 50+ psi. At wot slight up hill/hard run through all gears max egt 1300-1400 on stage 6. The smoke cleans up around 1600-1700 and after the there is not smoke, runs very clean. This turbo goes from starting to spool to full boost very fast, it almost like a on\off switch, towning is ok you just need to be nice to the truck and light with the foot or the truck will get a little rough.

Tested it at night so I have no smoke results.
I am getting my ported stock, ported HTT 3 piece and ATS 3 piece exhaust manifolds flow benched. We will see what the results are from them and I will be selling 2 manifolds and 1 turbo when I'm all done.
