Silencer ring question?

What does removing the silencer ring do? Where is it located at, and how would one do this? Would this eliminate the chuffing noise I get once in awile when my rig shifts into OD at medium throttle?

Thanks

Re:Silencer ring question?

The only thing it will do for you by removing it is hear your turbo wine. It will not hurt your rig, etc. Take your air intake hose off your turbo and you will see a snap ring, pry it out with a small screw driver and the cone will pop out, install your intake hose back on and you have insta turbo wine! Sounds nice, threw mine in the garbage. Extra factory parts.

Check out http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/turbo_faq.htm
for pics. Just be careful when removing it that you dont get any metal scrapings or anything in the turbo!!!

Seems easy enough, will it get rid of the chuffing noise that I get once in a while when I go into OD? A thread awile ago talked about the chuffing noise resulting from a sudden drop in RPM's causing blow back though the turbo....Any thoughts?

will my warranty be voided doing this? what does holset say about it?

A dealer can argue that, but I would suggest putting it back in prior to taking it to a dealer.

Im not sure what holset has to say about it, but I would strongly suggest you keep the parts so you can put them back in for any reason.

Re:Silencer ring question?

Repeating once again the silencer ring is a Dodge Cummins only item for reduced turbo whine for passenger comfort. NO other Cummins B,C,M or ISX engine uses this item as they don't care about the noise. "Warranty" what have you comprimised, if the dealer refuses it on this part then you better not drive the truck as this causes much more wear and damage. Report these dealers to customer service at DC and sooner later they will jump on them to be reasonable not arrogant. PK

Re:Silencer ring question?

I just removed mine, but still have the stock intake. Can't hear much of anything at idle (no boost). Went on a little grins and giggles tour of the area, and got into it, yeah you can hear the whistle. On the highway, I could hear it as well, but not annoying - easily drowned it out with the radio.

Can I "assume" correctly that when I put on a Scotty II that this thing will really talk to me, my neighbors, the people on the other side of the...well, you get the picture. Thanks!
