Its the little ring inside the turbo...

when you take off the hose that goes into the turbo at the front, you will see a plastic snap ring that holds in a larger cone lookin ring in the turbo, if you take a screwdriver and remove that snap ring, you can easily pull out the larger ring thingy, All it benefits is a little mroe turbo whistle, i just removed mine yesterday... he he he he he

Welcome to DTR!!

my snap ring was metal, fwiw. I just took mine out and then my wife asked why do you want to hear that noise? I told her if you have to ask, you won't understand

It wont' be that loud if you still have a stock airbox.Put a BHAF or a AFE intake and you will hear it.

Welcome to the greatest Dodge Diesel Site on the web!

You got to pull this out of your turbo...

Some like the sound some don't... I LOVE THE SONG OF THE TURBO!

Then drop the extra weight of a muffler....

Then that's at start for a begginer...

Yeah

i guess the installed it because some people dont like the sound of a turbo whistlin, but if you ask me, then if you were buyin a truck that year, why would u get a diesel? the 12V is one of the racketiest engines out there AND I LOVE IT!! and the reward is hearin that HX 35 scream at 2000 rpms plus!! my point being why put a silencer for the turbo if the truck is loud enough already?

the one thing i like about it with my setup is that u can actually tell when ur fueling alot and when ur not.. what i mean is based on the sound of the whistle u know when ur running alot of fuel and when uv gone past ur useful rpm band and also when ur using too much fuel etc etc...u get a better idea about ur fueling curve just based on the sound

You can get more noise out of the stock air box by taking out that short piece of plastic on the pass side of the box. Makes a HUGE difference.
Luv that whistle!

Won that leave your turbo exposed?

Resulting in possible damage? i thought about gettin a filter just over the turbo.... and dissin the air box.. opinions anyone?

I think he is talking about the rectangle piece of plastic that fits between the airbox and the fender. You could put a cone filter directly on the turbo it would just be drawing in hotter air because of its proximity to the engine and hot air from the radiator. IMO
