Silencer ring?
#5
Not hard. It's just held in there by a big snap ring sortta thing. It's been so long ago since I was at that stage, that I can't remember exactly what it looks like. Just remove the snap ring and pull out the silencer ring.

The ease of taking it out is directly related to patience. If you are patient it will pop out in munites...with frustration comes anguish. I used pick type tools to pry up the snap ring and hook it while working it out of the groove.
However...I had tried and tried for about 30 minutes before I gave up, had a beer and calmed down. I walked out to my truck...snagged it and it popped out.
Take it easy, don't rush, and it will come out.

Pull our air intake of and you will be looking at it right there in front of you. You will see a dark ring that is the retainer . Once you pop that out you will be able to take out the ring.

Air side. It should take u longer to take the air intake of than get the ring out. Two small screwdrivers. One end of snap ring has a bevel put on screwdriver under it then use the second to pry it on out. silencer will fall out after that

Alright just so when i start doing it in awhile i just have to do it once let me make sure i got this right.
Go in from where the air intake (air filter houseing correct?)
removing dark retaining ring,
then pop out ring. (what the ring look like metal ring rubber ring?)
then put retainer back in or leave it out?
It may have already have been done by whom ever had the truck before me.
Will i be able to re install if its going to be to noisy for my taste. I do alot of long distance, and any extra drone, whine, and squeel can sometimes get annoying.
Thanks rob

To tell you the truth, I wasn't able to tell much difference in sound when I still had the stock airbox on. Once I opened it up with a cone filter though, it was REALLY loud and annoying, so I put the silencer ring back in and it quieted down a bit.
Good luck... I agree with the comment about patience... it seems simple but man it took me a few tries to get that thing out the first time. It didn't help that the opening in the clip was at the TOP of the inlet.
