by funnel top do you mean this?

<img src="http://www.thepartsbin.com/images/perfthumbs200/afe/caifilter.jpg">

Where the top of the filter has a cone shaped filter element in it? Thats what my old one has. The pro guard 7 just has a flat plastic plate across the whole top.

There are a couple filters on ebay Ive got my eyes on, but they are filters for an 03-04 cummins, still have 4" inlet, the part numbers are different for a 2nd gen. I would think they would still fit ok.

If the inlet is the same I dont see why it wouldnt work. If your still seat on the regular AFE and not the pro guard 7 I can get you mine for cheap. its for a 98 with the mega cannon heat shild thingy

mine looks like this

but it does have the rubber lip around it. And I run a prefilter over the air filter. The one you listed might be that new setup they call a "stage 2" or something and charge alot more money for.

I don't know what the actual name for the blue one is. I got my race setup from Rip at sourceautomotive.biz
The blue ones are the "Race" filter.

If you want decent filtering and keep your whistle go with the progaurd 5. No need to buy the torque tube (IMO it isn't worth the $$$) You may consider a prefilter sock for extra protection and it doesn't make alot of difference in sound quality.

Is it a K&N filter thing or a K&N oil thing?? I hope not as I use the K&N filter oil on my AFE filter.... Only because that is the only thing available locally.

I understand its just the K&N filters. The oil/cleaner is probably all the same. From what I understand K&N used to be good but there quality has all gone down hill and you shouldnt use them on anything anymore if its a newer made filter.

I think they've always been the same, but it wasn't untill diesel guys who do oil samples and freak out over anything started using them that they became taboo. They're not the greatest, I don't use them on my vehicles, but I don't think there's anything "wrong" with them per-say

Probably. I really dont like cotton filters at all and I shouldnt be using one on my truck I guess. I deffintly will never use one on my car. Hopefully the diesel can take more abuse from dirt getting sucked into the intake.
