Should have gone with the Ford?

Hey Guys now that Ive got your attention, I have some questions I have a 2002 4x4 quad cab, Filled up yesterday and got 13.3mpg I wasn't driving miss daisy and I wasn't driving like I stole it. Its got the autotrans, 3.55 gears, 285-75-16 tires I have the super chips 3705 programmer, and A K&N Just did the filter and have been using powerservice. What gives This was all empty normal driving, I'm starting to have second thoughts on the whole dodge 24 valve. We have had the 12 valve since 96. The programmer was on the highest level. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Jason

Cant really say for sure, but at 80 with the cruise on I get 17MPG. Today with 4 hours on the highway at an average of 65 I pulled right around 18.5. My truck is the same as yours, but with a couple of mild changes. Maybe the programmer on the highest level would cause more fuel consumption, but I cant say for sure.

Turn the programmer down. You may need to clean your IAT and MAP sensors.

where is the IAT senosr at? I know where the MAP sensor is. And how do you clean them? My mileage has been hanging around 15-16mpg lately and I'm willing to try anything to get it a little better.

IAT sensor is on the intake manifold just to the rear of the MAP sensor. Has a 2 wire clip on plug. You clean it spraying carb cleaner on the sensor inside the little cage.

I took mine out after 64k miles and it was so gummed up I didn't even try to clean it. (constant exhaust brake use) Replaced it for about $24 and gained ~2 mpg. I think I'll take it out and clean it around every 10k miles, or when the mpg's go down.

I have given up hand calculating, and just look at the overhead, makes me feel a little better, knowing the truck thinks it is getting 22 + mpg, reality, is closer t0 13

Ill Try

Thanks for the input guys I will try to clean the sensor, I'm gonna try a few different things, Different settings on the chip, Maybe a different chip? If all else fails maybe a newer dodge 04- 05? I sure like the way the old body style looks.

I was getting 16-17 mpg with 35' tires. A fews ago I put my stock wheels with 285's on. Now I'm seeing 18 mph. My XZT+ is ALWAYS on L3 (timing & fueling). I think on L2 (timing only) I can get better.

Oh, BTW, I've never seen a Ford 7.3 get anywhere over 10 mph while towing. I think you are better off with your 24 valve than a 7.3 anyday.
