Anyone know if there's a short shifter kit for a 1997?

Everywhere I look, I find them for 24-valvers, but no love for us 12-valvers.

BD makes them for the 4500. I have one in my 98. I got it from a board member/ebay......but I know jegs and summit list them for around 225.

I ground the lower right corner of the ball to make the 2-3 shift alittle easier. Worked pretty good.

No the top covers on the trannies changed from 97 to 98. Nobody makes a short shifter for a 97 or older. You have to swap out a 98 or newer top cover and buy a gear shift also. Everything is just a direct bolt up, the reverse sensor is in the same place also. I did the swap when we installed my SBC DD and I will NEVER go back to a old style top cover. Then again my next CTD will be a auto 3500 to haul this "Limo" around to the pulls

What Mark Said...I've did the same thing when I went to the SBC DD and put the BD kit in about a month later. Don't know how I ever drove it like it was before

I'd like to do this also, what parts exactly do we ask for? Just a top cover and shifter stick? Or is there more? New or used, trans shop, dealer, what?

I got mine used from a TDR member for $150, top cover that is. I bought the shifter as a kit (shifter, nut. pattern) as a kit from Quad4x4 for $80 but have heard of people getting it cheaper at the dealer.

Maybee a stupid question, but does a short shift unit shorten the stick and change something else??? Just wondering if anyone ever tryed just shortening the stick??

Sharpemachine-------a short shifter kit uses the same shift handle, it just changes the pivot point so shifter travel is reduced, so it's not really a short shifter, it's a short throw shifter kit.
