Nice try banks...

I've got one on mine (upgraded to the new style top cover too )

I like it, a little notchy, but it is quick...move the shifter ~4" and bam you're in the next gear.

I am fighting a little rattling problem in OD, if I hold the shifter to the right side a little, it goes away. I'm gonna do a little searching tomorrow (hopefully) and make sure everythings tight, and see if I can figure it out.

Would I recommend it? Not sure, I like it, and I can't believe the difference of mine to a regular one, it's unreal.

FWIW,
Chris

i dont even know what a short shifter is exactly, how does it work?? is there the thing that goes down in the tranny, then a box on top of that?? or something??
like with some overdrive ratio lever-fulcrum or something??? kinda like using a 1.7-1 ratio rocker arms on a chevy 350 to make the valve go down farther/faster?

Banks: I think the pivot point is just different on the shifter. They made it where under the pivot point, it has a longer piece so that you dont have to move the top as quick/far to get the bottom to move as quick/far, therfore making shifting faster. At least i think thats how it works.

Banks,

You end up with less **** travel when shifting from one gear to the next, this is at the expense of an increase in effort to move the lever. But, it is very minimal. The website may explain it better.

Check it out here:

In 98 they went to a different top cover, and a better shift mechanism (A LOT CLOSER throw)... To use the BD kit, you have to have a 98+. I changed to the new style shifter AND the BD short shifter, BIG difference over what cam stock on the 94-97 trucks

Are these shift kits harder on the sync.'s? Dosent sound too heathy for the tranny? I would like to be able to shift faster, but not at the mercy of my sync.s.
Anybody have any long term results on sync. wear?

I don't see how it would be hard on the transmission. All you are doing is moving the fulcrum on a lever. You are making the lever travel less distance, but you must do more work to offset the decrease in distance.

I have one on my truck and it makes a huge difference in shifter travel. At the time I installed it, I made measurements of the distance from one gear to the next both before and after. I cannot for the life of me find it now, but I remember the 20% difference promised was close. I will go out and measure some distances and post back. Then you can compare what you have.

The distance from 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, and 5th to 6th is about four inches give or take a quarter of an inch or so. The distances from 1st to 3rd and 3rd to 6th is about one inch or so. Hope this helps some of you.

When I saw the price I decided against the short shift, but I would like to figure out how to bend the stock shifter so that it sits closer to me instead of way over on the passenger side.
