Shocks

Well....I went with the Rancho RS9000's for the adjustability, but I think Bilsteins are better shocks. In the over 8500 GVW class, some say they are a bit harsh when running empty. I got the Ranchos at a great price and I'm satisfied. The shocks and the Timbrens really helped tame my fore/aft modulation problem.

Hmph... Whats wrong with Monroe???
I have had magnums on all my trucks and have no problems.
I just put a whole new set on this truck last weekend. I couldn't see myself paying over double for Ranchos..

I put Rancho 5000's all around a couple of weeks ago. The front ones did stabilize the trucks front and improved handling. The rear.........big mistake. Unless your running with weight in the back, they will beat you to death! If I hadn't tossed the origonal rears, I would put them back on.

I've still got stock rears for ya...anything to trade?
I run heavy so the RS9000's are fine. Rears are 1 notch from max. I could really use a tad more spring that comes in earlier than the overloads.
Timbren are rubber spring overloads..see :

Gottcha....... thanks Rattl.
Lil Dog... nothing is wrong with Monroe. They are a good shock for occasional off roading. The reason I go with Bilstein is that they are built to handle constant abuse from washboard roads and what not. They will out live most all single shaft shocks on the market. I had Monroe gas Magnums on my Furd and they worked good for that old '78.

Well I only drive gravel/off road about 50% of the time anyway so I guess I am OK. I guess we will see how long they last. Since the truck still had the OEM at 165,000 Km (103,125 Mi) they are a HUGE improvement.

Here goes another onslaught of opinions.
Keeping the story short, I first got a set of KYB Monomax's (Bilstein replica's). Front was good, back beat me up sooo bad that I didnt like driving it anymore. (and it didnt look like the dogs cared for them either) I returned the KYB's after 6 months of back abuse and ordered the Rancho RS9000's at a 4 for 3 price. Best move I made. The front ones works as good as before and I can leave the back ones set on a soft setting untill I choose to stiffen them up for towing. Driving is pleasureable now and I saved money. Dont fall for the "if it dont ride like a truck then it aint a truck" line of garbage. I did and it cost me a few extra hours of shock swaping.

Put Bilsteins on my 3500 and my 1500, best money i ever spent. Dodge would do well to ship these trucks from factory with these shocks . both handle like different trucks !!
add the piaa wipers and you are ready for the road
