Shift kit

Any recommendations on a good, affordable shift kit for my '99 automatic trans ?
I do quite a bit of hauling and/or towing.
Thanks, daveg.

Get on ebay, and get a transgo kit. The TFOD-Diesel kit is the one i had, and it made a pretty good difference in the stock converter holding the power, and firming the shifts up. They are around $60-70.

I just put that kit in my 95. I am very happy with it. Take you time and lay it all out on a very clean surface. I missed putting a spring back in and had to work with the tech support over several calls and 1/2 a day to figure it out. Very good kit. I f I wouldn't have forgot that spring it would have been right from the get go!

hi
tfod-diesel

only prob was they gave a range of sizes for drilling the holes ?

drilled mine to the min size first time and it only made a moderate diff .

took it out and drilled it middle range and reinstalled it and it is very firm shifting now .
take your time and read the ins. work on a large clean surface !

also now you will be able to check your fluid in P !

and you can idel it for days and not burn out your front seal as it will pump fluid in P.

also no lag like some have when going into D from P first thing in morning !

use atf+4 fluid

do it !

Thanks, good info about drilling the orifice. I didn't know it didn't pump while in park, makes sense. I've done shift kits before & worked on a lot of hydraulics, just replaced the power steering pump...cleanliness is next to Godliness !
Yeah, I only use ATF+4.
Thanks, daveg

P.S. Broncolou...did you see my post about my Scotty II in 2nd. gen. performance forum ?

Ive got one from DTT well they sell you a valve body already set up. And i got the TQ wich bleeds down after it sits for a few hours so i hafto put it in nutral to let it pump up (wich is anoying) but it drives and tows real nice. But if you choose them you will also hafto get what they call a shift enhanser wich has a race mode daily driver and a tow mode wich are very difrent shift points. Mite be more than what your looking for but it works great. Just letting ya know some options.

i had my trans built with Suncoast parts and they use TransGo shift kits. i'm very happy with the shift kit, and they are also very reputable!

I have a Transgo TFOD-diesel kit. Works great but I drilled the holes a little bigger than the instruction's max and now I feel like the 3-4 shift is too firm for my taste. When you do the shift kit, get a new separator plate, heavy duty band strut, aluminum accumulator piston, and front servo while you're at it. The front servo is expensive ($165, DTT has them) but you can get the cover for much cheaper. Not sure if the cover alone does much but I guess you can't go wrong for the price. That's about all you can do without pulling the tranny. I got my stuff from:

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm They're also on ebay PATCTrans or something like that.

They may not be the expert on our transmissions but they've got what we need at reasonable prices. Just make sure they give you a total before you give them your credit card. They charged me $18 for shipping on a <2 lb. package.
