Setup for 500+hp 01 24v
I've got a friend that has an 01 24v with a TST and an exhaust on 37's. He says it's a total mutt and is going to go with a set of twins, sticks, fuel system, etc..
Give some opinions on the setup you would recommend for a real fun to drive truck that can still do it all.
I was thinking maybe a 57mm S300 over a 74mm S400. A set of Mach 4's or 5's, Air Dog and studs.
Would the BD towing Twins do the job?
I appreciate any input here as my knowledge of the earlier trucks is very limited.

i know this setup made lil over 500hp this past Sat on dunbar's dyno at 84* outside....2001 Dodge 2500 Black sport 6 speed BD High HP VP44 Adrenaline/pulse Smoke switch SmartyRevo, FBD 220's HT64/65/14 turbo,southbend DD 3250 ,GFS-392 fuel system,AFE boost tube/ScottieII Snow water/ meth,FBD 5in to 7in tip,37x12.50x17's Leveling kit
but to me a set of 150 or 200hp injectors, BD tow'n twins, timing box stacked to the TST, studs, and a upgraded LP would do the trick....with some fine tuning...just my thoughts...

if he is set on twins then do a HX35 over HT3B...might be old school but works awesome and is not big dollar stuff.
150-180hp sticks (you can go bigger at the expense of more smoke and heat for more power)
head studs
airdog
i would stack a smarty on the TST...on a dyno it might actually lose a couple top end HP...but the area under the curve, spool up, and road manners are great and make it fun to drive.

How much variety is there stacking the Smarty and TST? How are the manners/drivability and power using timing only on the Smarty with a low level on the TST versus CatCHER software and higher levels on the TST? I get great drivability with my set up using timing only on the Smarty (no EZ, very minimal cruise control surge, great for freeway commuting), but I am always looking for more options!

I like it stacked I run smarty on 3 or 5 usually and then tst off or level 2 for daily driving and then turn it up for playing. The tst is a pretty common stack with a smarty and it picks up and starts fueling hard about where the smarty is dying off. I like the smarty with it for the bottom end fueling and overall timing.

What turbo are you using? Can you use the cruise control on any settings? Between the Mach3s and the B1-2 I have some lag and smoke and surge on cruise control. It is great for daily driving and towing, but now that I'm commuting 70 miles a day on the freeway, smooth cruise is a must! I had a Drag Comp years ago and the on-the-go adjustability was great. Looking for the same ease of adjustment with the Smarty left on timing only. I can tweak the TST on-the-go and change the Smarty for fun and dyno runs as I want!

thanks for the rundown. I ran my set up a few years ago with a drag comp and without the ATS intake and heater grid delete and came up with 435/1008 on 37s. My problem is the drivability on a daily basis. I love the current set up overall, but I want a remote adjustable (no timing) box for fun and ease of use. I don't even use the EZ unless I'm going prowling on the weekend!
I think it's down to the BlueChip FMS or the TST PM3. I LOVE Blue Chip products, but I am having trouble justifying $500 more for the FMS...

-Stock SO vp44
-Mach 4's
-TST/Smarty or Ez, Smarty was better on drivability and spooling but Ez made a bigger number on the rollers.
-Small set of twins, either BD's or like said Hx-35/HT3b or 74mm S400
-AirDog/MITUSA lift pump.
-Set of ARP 2000's or A1 Studs, might be need a HG and a o-ring job after a while depending on how much boost he's pushin and his luck.

IMO if all he wants is 500RWHP why spend the money on the twins when a 62/17/14 or similar will do the job.
TST - could send it in and upgrade to a comp.
150 injectors
smarty, ez, power puck
airdog
With 180 injectors and smarty on my 01 I made IIRC around 430RWHP. With the TST it just kept going up. I DD with the TST off and it ran great. If I wanted to play I just flipped the TST on which was always set on 9.
One thing with the smarty. When I dyno'd with it I made 10 less peak RWHP, BUT HP and TQ came on a lot sooner then with the power puck. The power puck is a good option IMO because it can be bought brand new for around 150 bucks and does just as good of a job as the smarty.
