Welcome aboard ncdodgeman20.
I had a friend put one on my 2002. It took about 2 hours, if I recall. The install on your 2001 should be similar. My fuel pressure at WOT was 5 psi before the kit, now I can't get it below 10 psi at WOT
You won't notice any performance gains from it, it just supplies the VP-44 (injection pump) with better fuel pressure to keep it from starving itself and burning up. It is a good idea to put one on if you plan on making performance upgrades. You will want good pressure there to support HP adders.
Not sure where you can find a portable FP gauge, but I would try NAPA.
Good luck,
~Rob

Also Welcome to DTR!
As stated, you won't see/feel any performance increase, but the Scotty Max Flow System is excellent for maintaining strong fuel pressure, up to about 450 HP... if you plan on adding power!
And if you plan on adding power...install permanent gauges before anything else!
Good luck.

A permenant fuel pressure gage is the best way to go. You can view all pressure readings in all situations. You can make a portable tester by getting a 3 to 5 foot length air conditioner charging hose with a schrader fitting on one end and just screw a 30psi pressure gage into the other end.

the Smart Flow kit also comes with a complete fuel pressure set up.
Compression fittings, tubing, needle valve and a 1" pipe nipple for easier installation. One of the metric adapters comes with a 1/8" tap for the fuel pressure instead of cutting a hose with a 'T'.
The washers for this kit are steel and rubber which is optimal for sealing and longevity.
Hope this helps.
