Ok. The BHAF has it in price. But how about performance? Seems like the Scotty unit goes in the other direction?

Scotty III is for 3rd gens only, for 2nd gens you need a Scotty II which is a little less exspensive. IMO, the Scotty II is superior to a BHAF because it is the only ultra-high flowing intake that draws in 100% outside air and no underhood air which is much hotter and can raise egt's. For those who are looking for any way to drop some egt, the Scotty is the only choice.

The whole "boring a 4.5 hole" has me a little bit concerned. But I like the concept muchly..... Hmmm.......

It has been said by scotty that at less than 400 hp the egt reduction will be minimal, but it is still a great filter...

Aside from the hole, which from the instructions and my lack of knowledge of what it looks like under there isn't clear to me why you need to do it, I REALLY like the installation. The fact that you are getting cooler non-underhood air is a plus meaning more power, even if it is just a little. Should also mean a pick up in mpg as well.

Some people dont care for the extra intake noise when they cut the hole. Thats about the only drawback.

I guess i'll have to print out the instructions and take a look under the hood to see what for.

Where is the hole drilled that you get more inake noise?

The intructions illustrate where the hole is drilled. The nice thing about the hole is that you can block it off when you don't want the extra noise and open it up when you are hot rodding.

How loud is it?

If you are towing and have at least 50-75 added HP, the Scotty II works awesome and you will see 100-150F egt reduction over the stock air box and 75-100F over the BHAF.
If you are stock power...I suggest the BHAF.

Once you start getting to the 375-400 rear wheel HP range, the Scotty II starts to really perform. On my 01 Ram with HP in the range of 480-502 as my max I had 350F reduction from stock.
This is under load utilizing the design with the forced air into the cowl below the windshield. I did also have a B1 kwik spool. However, put the stock air box on and the egt gauge was always hitting 1500.

I found that some folks are more sensitive to the sound of the air intake and they either put the insulation flap over the cowl hole when not needing MAX EGT reduction or some folks have added a TAG. The Turbo Air Guide was something I wanted to test.
Once I got it on the 01 I was feeling like something was missing.
It really made a difference in the sound.

There are several folks on here that have added the TAG.

Well I don't think I can't get any more honest a description than that!

I'm not hauling anything heavy (although we will be putting a big slide-in camper on next summer) and I'm more interested in mpg than hp.
Yeah yeah... I know.... This is a family site. Don't swear like that!

So maybe the bhaf is where I should be looking.
