Scotty II second hole

Aight on the hole that you have to drill, how do you keep water from getting in the filter when it rains. You can see light when you drill the hole through the vents so what stops the water from getting into the air filter?

Just installed mine recently and had the same concerns. Scotty informed me he did water testing. Put alot of water through the cowl with no ill effects. Water drains out cowl, because of trough in it. Some might trickle through space under filter. He assured me that none got in the turbo. I have since beenin a couple of downpours and carwashes with no ill effects. Tony

My 98.5 is driven all 4 seasons - about 30,000 miles/year and I have had 0 problems with water or any other contamination in the Scotty II.

Installed the grommet today. Really cleans up the install. What a great idea that was

Grommet? What grommet? That would be a welcome addition to the kit.
I have had the Scotty II (with the hole cut) for a couple years and its just great, no problem at all with water or even violent rainstorms.
Drilling the hole was very easy. I went to Ace Hardware and got a new 4" holesaw, and just took it easy drilling, and in about 10 minutes had a nice clean hole.

B.A. Ram , what exactly are you having difficulty drilling the hole. I did notice in the instructions that the hole is supposed to be drilled right next to the reinforced edge. When i attempted this the 4.5" hole saw interfered with a drop down in the sheet metal, and could not get next to the reinforcement. I ended up drilling as close to this drop down as possible, which moved the hole over some 3/4". Still lined up fine,so i'm not worried. As far as the grommet goes, there was a post on how guys are using a 4.5" grommet from a truck light to go into the hole as a rubber flange. You can purchase at NAPA for under $5,and makes the install that much nicer looking. It wouldn't be a bad idea for Scotty to include them in the kit, even if he added a few dollars to the cost.

lol what exactly is a hole saw? We tried using a jigsaw with a metal blade to no avail. You can't get enough leverage.

The 4.5 inch holesaw does cut into the reinforced section, but if you go slowly you can cut right thru the edge of it. It will bind and stop the drill if you try to cut too quickly.
