Scotty 2 airflow limits?

Does the Scotty flow enough to support twins? I had to trim the side inlet down about 3 inches to get it to fit but the rest is intact. I know it moves good air for single turbos but what is its limit? Thanks Tim

Two turbos, two air intakes...I'm not sure if the Scotty II would even fit properly with twin turbo system, even servicing only the top turbo. Space is a premium in a twin turbo set-up.

I second the fit issue. The twin setups I have seen pretty much require you to move your passenger battery some where else. Although it's not required, it does help a lot.

Two turbos, two air intakes...[/quote]

Compounds only have one "air" intake?...on the "big" low pressure turbo.

Re:Scotty 2 airflow limits?

Guess I worded the question wrong. It is already in and mounted with my twins. I was worried about the casing allowing enough air through to the afe. Most twin set ups use open elements ,but if it flows enough I would prefer to use the Scotty for cooler outside air. Tim

Tim, I'd like to know the same...sorry I cannot give you an answer as I never did twins...I am curious as to what you determine. I am also guessing your twins are positioned different for the fitment correct?

Re:Scotty 2 airflow limits?

Tim, The AFE Megga Cannon has a larger filter than the Scotty 2 and it only flows 820CFM. So if you have an air filter that flows about 800CFM and a turbo that flows 1300 CFM that filter is a big restriction.

Horace, I have had the Mega Cannon filter beside the 14" filter I use...where do you get the idea it is larger?
ITs 9" long and less surface area even with the custom indent cone.
I beg to differ on that conclusion. Especially after what folks have experienced with both systems. Then again...neither one will probably do the job on twins...I'd like to see though.

Horace, one of the things you need to keep in mind about airflow ratings is that they're done on a bench with a given set of parameters that may not necessarily reflect the circumstances that you'll see on the truck. So that 820 cfm is a maximum airflow at X inches of water restriction. It may not necessarily reflect the absolute maximum that the system is capable of. aFe once did a test of the Scotty I (they didn't tell us the test parameters) and delivered numbers over the 1000 cfm mark.

Re:Scotty 2 airflow limits?

I was just trying to compare numbers to basically show that neither the Scotty 2 filter or the Megga Cannon filter are big enough. I was kinda guessing which one was bigger then the other... Wheather it is 800cfm or 1000cfm it is still causing a restriction... And I know you 2 know better than any other that it is hurting performance. I do believe my 18" AFE filter with the 5" intake is big enough though .

Butter, I agree that the Scotty 'might' not do the job. I am leaning towards a twin system for the 3rd gens...then we'd be at or beyond what is needed. I would still like to see the results with the Scotty and as far as I know there is one person on here that is using the Scotty on his twins and its working out fine.

Re:Scotty 2 airflow limits?

Oh what have I got myself into now? : I have a good friend in Utah, "Maddog" who some of you have seen or heard of his truck..It's a Ford, with a Cummins 12v, with compound turbos, that has Dynoed 800hp+ on D/F only!!! When he Dyno's, he takes off the ( I think AFE) filter. Running his truck down the road, he runs this "tiny" filter, probably good enough to filter 1/4" road rocks.. . We all know, the more air volume we can get through the turbo the better. The thing, we get hung-up about is not only the volume of air, but it's quality. The tighter the media for filtering "crap" the larger the filter needs to be to compensate air flow restriction. Since I have appointed myself as Scotty's Air-intake systems, Manager of R&D, I have been experminting with the Scotty II, by eliminating the AFE filter all together, and preliminary results, have shown lowered EGT's by an additional 250*. The "thud" you guys just heard, was Rod's & Scotty's heads hitting the floor.. OMG!!!

Re:Scotty 2 airflow limits?

Got done doing some of the testing today. Weather was 86f with high humidity, cruising at 70mph the Scotty was about 50 degrees cooler than a 18" x 5" AFE. At wot though the afe was about 100 degrees cooler. Just thought some would want to know. Tim
