thats the way I have it hooked up now...I just liked the 3 relay idea better thanks though

Not to make you feel like an idiot, but did you have it hooked up correctly? If it is backwards, it won't do what you want. Just think of it as a check valve on a water line. Current will only go throught the diode one direction.

Your not making me feel like an idiot. I know what a diode is and I know how they work. The diode I tried would not flow ground, in either direction. Easy enough to isolate it with a relay.

Am I missing something or would this setup not be good when using an exhaust brake where you want to stay locked up but use the brakes also?

The TST schematic is way easier and no relays... Just ground the wire with a switch and your done...
