???s and possible problems after Free GWK(GSK)
Well to start this post the truck is a 97 3500 ext cab 4x4 with 5spd. Mods are as follows, boost and EGT gauges, #100 fuel plate full forward, AFC screw turned up and AFC housing full forward, and the GWK, oh also a BHAF, and I think 3 inch exhaust with a resonator. I preformed the GWK on the same day I ground my fuel plate, I used a 13mm end mill on the lathe at work to machine the hole on the 3/8 washers to fit. The thickness of the washers is .070, and I preloaded them both sets of springs to .053 which was .001 off from the factory preload. The truck runs great will free rev to 3500, and pulls past 3k(I am unable to truely test how high it pulls due to a extreme need for a clutch, hummm imagine that, a stock clutch won't hold a 100 plate and GWK) Anyway the problem I am experiencing is the truck wants to hold rpms above 2k. For instance when I am drivin down the road in 4th gear at 2100 and I release the throttle the truck seems to maintain speed and rpms. If I rev the truck up out of gear it seems slow for the rpms to fall back to idle. I am wondering if this is normal ( I have never had a GSK or GWK) or if maybe I have done something wrong, or need to adjust something further. I am in the process of saving for a dual disk clutch before anymore upgrades.

First of all make sure the washers are not to big,, mine were 1.01 in. and it hung up on the idle spring. I then found some 7/16s washer .070 thick and they were .90 outside dia,,, drilled them out to 1/2 hole and set the preload to .030. My factory settings was .065 , I found anywhere between .030 and .040 workes perfect for my 96. Free revs to 3,500 and pulls good to about 3,150.

thanks outlaw, I did ensure the 3/8ths washers were small enough to clear the outer spring, maybe I need to try the idle and get a good clutch then if the truck continues I will go into the pump and try to take preload out of the springs until it clears up.

after you lower it, if your rpms seem to be too low, you could tighten the springs on click

thank you all for your advice, I am currently out of state away from my truck but I will lower the idle ASAP and post on here to let everyone know how it worked. I heard some people saying that a 97 truck had problems with the GWK, I went and did it because I knew that many 97's out there run the same GSK kits as earlier models, so I couldn't understand why the GWK would do any different. Now its clutch time.
