RV 275's

RV 275's
Well I can't get rid of this power bug. All I can think about is "what else can I mess with on the truck". If I get a set of 275's for it, what is involved with changing them? Do you just unscrew the old ones and screw the new ones in, bleed em and go? Can't be that simple I'm sure.

I have the same setup as you and would opt for slightly bigger injectors, if I had to do it again. I'd look at some Jammer 2's or 3's (nozzles). By the time you purchase the tips, install them and have the pressures checked, you'd be out about the same as the 275's. I didn't notice a difference with the 275's. I believe you really don't notice them until you're towing.
There's a guy on another site who's selling EDM 100hp for pretty cheap. If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you the info.

Yeah, I see it is slightly more involved than I thought...May let western star do that one. Hmmm. Well, some bigger injectors or nozzles sure would be fun. I'd like some that you can really notice empty and playing, as well as towing.
Man I just can't help it. The money tree needs some pruning and fertilizing, and maybe some mulch, but should be just fine. A man simply has to have a high performance towing machine. A big, smoking, turbo whistling beast that frightens children, trailers, gas powered vehicles, and all grades of wildlife. It is getting there, I better quit adding stuff soon actually before I break something expensive. Like my transmission.
And I see I have somehow posted in the wrong forum again. Daggone it. Sorry Mr. Moderator.

Funny you mention, from what I have read you are about at your transmissoin threshold with the 275's & VA. I'm heading down the same road very soon myself.
I haven't quite yet decided, it's either:
Smarty
(OR)
Van Aaken V-5 & RV 275's
(OR)
1.6's & save for VA or Smarty
or.......

I can tell a pretty big difference with my EZ and the 275's. Especially after I added the 4" MBRP exhaust system a couple of weeks ago. I'll tell you how much after I dyno next Saturday.

Yeah let me know how your dyno goes. Maybe I'll have to go with the 275's. I can just picture myself starting up from a stop light, towing the bobcat, glance in the mirror and see transmission parts skidding across the road, bouncing off the DOT man's windshield, etc. I'll have to do some injector research, I reckon.

I guess I can say the same as I've read before..."If I did it, anyone can!"
From what I remember. It's probably harder getting the valve cover out from under the firewall than replacing the six injectors afterward.
I remember wishing I had a scaffolding set up over my engine bay!!
Leaning over the radiator core support was a pain in the belly...cushion it well!!
I used a strong small, strong tipped flatblade screw driver to pop out the transfer tubes and it got easier as I got further.
The instructions say to use a plenum bolt screwed into the top of the injector- thats what I did (with a big washer under the head of it and a loosely adjusted pair of vise grips over the bolt to act as a slide hammer to pop the injectors free of the o-rings).
When reinstalling the new, just make sure that they are properly lined up so that when you put in your fuel transfer tubes into the sides of them and crank down the large outer nut, it's all lined up.
As far as how it runs... I believe there is a noticable difference.
I feel that it has more power across the board and it seems to have a lot more power in the top end. Merging onto highways seems to have gotten a little easier.
I bought mine from PDR who had a good price and they gave me $50. back for my old ones.
I was told that with all else stock, I should have 275Hp and 515-525Trq. but...I have no idea because I have no dyno.

Timberman, I originally started with the 275's & an EZ. That was a good HP improvement. Once I started towing over 10,000 lbs, my torque convertor started slipping, but that was at 183,000 miles, so I would assume I was on borrowed time anyway with the TC. I had the tranny overhauled & a Suncoast TC & valvebody put in. Now my truck was ready for more power. I went to the Edge Comp & EDM mach 1.5's. They smoked & acted irratic, so I had some more EDM's made which were 1.75's & they had more power, but still had the irratic idle & lots of smoke. I went back to a set of 275's that were EDM'd by DonM. I would guess that they are in the 90HP gain range. They have worked flawlessly. If you are an every day driver & occasional towing man, I would not do anything more than 275's with the Edge Comp. You will get good power & a fair amount better fuel mileage. If I drive 70 on the interstate, I can get 23 mpg with my 4X4, & comp set on stage 2 or 3. Use the K I S S method. You can get a set of 275's for around 300 bucks or a little less even. Don't waste your money on an Edge EZ. Spend the extra 100 or so dollars & get a comp. Then you will be set, until you have to start on the tranny. I also use a Scotty 2 air intake with the hole cut in the firewall. I think this extra air helps as well. I have the wastegate welded shut on my HX35 as well. I can get to 46 lbs of boost most all the time. You will probably hear some say don't lock down your waste gate, but my truck has 270k miles on it, & haven't had a turbo related issue because of this. More air equals more power, & it is fairly cheap to get more air.
Oh & to do the injectors yourself is much easier than you would think. As someone said, the valve cover is about the hardest thing to remove. All you need is a 3/4 wrench, flathead screwdriver to pop out the injector tubes, 15 mm socket with ratchet,8mm wrench for the injector holds,& a 10 mm to remove a few bolts around the intake. You can just carefully move the injector lines enough to ease the inj tubes out a 1/4 inch or so. That is all you have to move them. If you need some help with this, shoot me a PM.
