Running High EGT's question
I have 2 01 Dodge duallies with 5.9 motors. They both have BD 110 injectors, ATS 3 piece manifolds, 4 inch free flow exhaust, TST Power max Programmers, AFE air filter, Banks High ram intake, upgraded automatic heavy hauler transmissions, 4:30 axle gears.
One of the trucks has the stock turbo on it while the other one was replaced with an Holset HX35W. The stock turbo truck doesnt get high EGT;s while towing, but the other one just gets really hot, around the 1400 at short times. The truck with the stock turbo is alot quicker on the take off too. What would you guys suggest? I know people told me just add the water methanol injection and be done with it, while others say change the turbo (HX35W). I tow alot everyday and are looking to lower the EGT's, but not lose my power.
Thanxs for any suggestions!

The wastegate would be the culprit I would look at.
You have enough fuel to push either of those turbos past 40psi with a blocked wastegate.
If the wastegate is working properly (as verified with regulated shop air), then you need to be looking for either intake leaks (boost leaks--especially the passenger side intercooler boot) or exhaust leaks (cracked manifold isn't likely with your replacements-- check for bad seals at the gaskets).

The HX35W has a elbow on it while the other stock turbo on the other truck has a TST J-hook attached on it! Could the elbow be bad? I will look for other leaks!

Yeah, the truck with the HX35W should be running circles around its twin sister. You definately have a boost leak somewhere. Try pinching off the wastegate hose with a pair of vise grips & take it for a spin....should see way higher numbers. Then if not, check for boost leaks.

A little off topic, but what is the difference between a HX35 and a HX35W?
My truck is a 01 3500 4x4 5 speed. I always assumed it had a stock turbo on it. The tag on the side of the turbo says HX35W. Is that not what came on it from the factory? It has an adjustable boost elbow and with the TST on I can hit 43-44 lbs of boost.
