RPM surge with larger injectors

On the highway with my DD3 (115hp) injectors I have the most annoying surge/drone where im holding steady at a given speed/rpm. The truck just sounds like a washing machine. You can even see the tach surging slightly up and down...it get so annoying that I have to keep fluctuating my speed/pedal position to keep the rpms climbing and falling constantly so the RPM's do not settle and start to drone/surge.

I never really noticed anything with the stock injectors, but i wasn't paying attention. Is this a normal diesel thing, or is this due to my injectors? My main concern is if I did something wrong when installing the injectors.

Did you torque the retainer bolts to the correct spec? This has great influence on the new injectors and how they spray fuel to the cylinder. Do a search if you like on torqing injectors and you will see how important this step is.

If you did torque em down correctly, do you still have the stock injectors? If so, on a Saturday morning, throw them back in and see if the same thing happens. If not, then you might have a faulty injector or 2. Just a thought.

i never noticed any surge at highway speeds with my '02, but around 45mph with the cruise control on i noticed it would speed up/slow down. kind of felt like it could not provide the precise amount of fuel for 45mph.

I had exact same condition with my truck when the injection pump was slipping time. I had set the 0216 injection pump timing failure a couple weeks earlier on the dyno and on a long highway trip i started getting what your talking about. Replaced injection pump and it fixed the problem. Not the best news in the world but could be your problem.

I already have the 0216 code...had it since I bought the truck

almost 15K on it and only had it act up twice with any kinda hesitation or problems.

i just took an overnight 200 miles round trip to my buddy's college and the whole way the truck ran flawlessly motor wise...i still one hell of a vibration in my rear tho...i gotta check all the bolts to make sure something isnt loose
