Since most wear as at startup, the superior cold starting of a synthetic is money well spent IMO.

That might not be the case for people who drive their truck differently than I do, or live in warm climates. I happen to have tons of short trips, all stop and start, and no plugging in. That makes the superior cold flow of a 5w worthwhile to me.

I'm not made of money, either.

Even on the official Cummins website they recommend 15K for oil changes on their ISB engines.

The soot issue is why I use an oil additive called LC20 by LubeControl. I've seen this stuff DISSOLVE carbon and junk in the engine and suspend it in the oil. It's softens and melts soot and carbon-based deposits in the engine and eliminates their ability to abrade.

I have no affiliation with LCD, inc other than that of a happy customer. I found out about them over on Bobistheoilguy and decided to give their product a shot after the universally glowing reviews on that website.

good info on this thread so far...a few questions:

1) What is TP filter?

2) Interesting, so LC20 seems to work to remove soot and carbon deposits...I've heard (from TV and ads) that Zmax is supposed to do the same thing, namely soaking into the engine and removeing carbon...is this true, anyone had experience with the Zmax in their engine? Is it really as great as they tout it to be?

3) I'm considering synthetic in the engine, looking at Amsoil or Royal Purple...do you know which weight to run and how many units (I assume in qts since most synthetic engine oils I've seen always seem to be in the smaller qts containters...or do they sell by gallons as well?) ...I do a fair amount of short trips and frequent starts but I also am on the hwy a few times a week for an hour or so at a time...the weather here in MD is moderate, not extremely cold winters like those in the upper North East.

4) lastly, I know that synthetic 75w90 is good for both diffs (RP or Amsoil) but what about the T-case...same thing or different weight?

Toilet Paper filter. Frantz oil refiner is one.

Snake oil. As seen on TV. Don't waste your money.

15W40 Royal Purple or what ever.

The Tcase takes ATF+4 just like the trans.
