Rips 4 inch exhaust
I just ordered Rip Rooks 4 inch Straight pipe exhaust for my truck today. It should be here either friday or saturday. Anyone that has installed it, is there anything in need to look out for? The stock system looks like it'll come out easy for me, the only pain i'll have is getting the two bolts from the flange next to the turbo. Also how does it sound compared to a 3 inch straight pipe? i will be using a 5 inch stainless dual walled tip too.

I did it over two years ago and forgot some. but I remember I had to re-do something back around the rear axle with shortening a piece behind the muffler (you won't have) trying to get everything to fit around the 265 spare tire. It is something you have to do with any of them, I just didn't cut one piece short enough first.
Biggest advice is not to tighten those clamps fully until it is PERFECT! Days if needed to make sure you're happy with how it sets and exits. The pipes are a beeyatch to pull apart once you have bent a ring into the female pipe! Dang near impossible without a lot of heat, which I did not have.
Have a Sawzall and not a hacksaw.
Mine sounds great, but it has the muffler. Piece of cake.

what he said, the pipes are impossable to pull apart when you use a ubolt clamp. I ended up getting band clamps after wrelsting with getting the exhaust out a few times. I just use the bolt clamps that have hangers on them where needed but dont tighten them anymore then needed to keep them from moving or falling off. The band clamps seal the pipes without leaking. As far as your turbo bolts to exhaust if its similar to my 12v what I did to get to them was under the truck and used an 18" and maybe a 12" extension and a universial 3/8 drive to get at them. Also for about a week befor I did the exhaust every time I stoped when the truck was hot I took a candle under the hood and melted the wax on the tips of the bolts sticking through the ears on the back of the turbos elbow. Those rusted bolts came out easy, no trouble. The only mods on my system is I had to cut about 4" off one of the strait peices of pipe to get everything to line up correctly, and I had to cut the tail piper to an angle for fit, look. other wise an exhaust was no trouble on this truck. the old one wouldnt come out so I cut it out. good luck!

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but I'm considering doing Rip's 4" and was wondering about the noise. Right now my truck is 3" straight with the resonator on and it gets pretty noisey in the rear seats where my boys sit. Will the 4" with muffler take care of this and be easier on their young ears?

I dont know about the rips but my 4" with a magnaflow muffler I dont hear much inside cab exhaust noise, I hear the motor and turbo but thats about it. now with the windows down I can hear the exhaust some but im not getting anything through the floor really.

What I'm getting is more like a loud numbing drone @ 2000 rpm when it's under load. It can't be good for their ears.

that could be what the muffler eliminates. I know larger like 5"+ exhausts drone more. My muffler is basicly 4" straight through but it has a larger chamber around the 4" pipe. That could just elminate that drone.

I loosened the clamp that holds the elbow to the turbo and took elbow and exhaust pipe off. Put the exhaust pipe in a vise and take bolts off. Saves a lot working at bad angles to get to bolts.

I've got a '99 ISB (pretty much stock at this point), and am thinking of putting on a 4" system. My question has to do with the elbow on the turbo. Can I get a 4" elbow that would be larger than the stock elbow from Dodge? I know that Banks makes something like that, but does anyone else? Thanks for any "comeback" on this question.
