Results of porting?

Will porting a cylinder head and installing an ATS manifold cause me to lose boost? If so is it possible to lose boost but maintain or gain power?
I did a bunch of mods at the same time and my boost is about the same maybe 1 LB low.
I ported and polished the head, had it O-ringed. installed and ATS manifold.
installed piston type transfer pump. went from 6 PSi to 13 PSI.
Ground off the AFC foot in pump.
installed an 03 air to air, and installed all 3" boost piping. installed second gen intake neck.
It feels good but Im going to try and get it dynoed this next week.

Boost is nothing more than a measure of restriction. By porting and polishing the head and installing a higher flowing exhaust manifold, you lessened the restriction in the motor. While you might be seeing lower boost numbers, you will still be getting the same volume of air into the engine.

Frostie, is it possible that while doing all of that you might have nudged the AFC a little closer to the cylinder head? A little bit of timing makes a big difference in boost levels.

BigBlue made some good points, too.

Good point on the timing, Dave. I gave in and bumped mine a little---what seemed to be only about the width of the timing mark. Now, instead of opening the WG at 35psi, it stops at 30. No other changes.

does anyone have any befoer and after pics of the "grinding of the AFC lever"? I'm curious, but won't do it until I know that I won't destroy something.

as a matter of fact I did advance my timing. I wonder if I should go back a bit or keep running as is.

edit--Jeremy, do you have a first gen, too, or jsut curious to see the AFC grind? Wannadiesel has an 'after' pic in his gallery---he photoshopped it to look ground, but if you look kinda close you can see it's really all there.

My boost droped about 3-5 pounds when I had mine done. I also put a bigger pump on so it was kinda hard to tell.
