Restoring MPG

Okay I recently got a 2000 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins and 95,000 miles. I was wandering what could be done to improve the mileage, or restore it to normal. Thanks a lot, George.

Well for what I've read, I thought the trucks got a good bit better mileage. I'm not griping about the mileage, I'm just looking for ways to improve it. What's the reason your's gets 20 mpg's and someone else's may get 12? Thanks, George

What kind of mileage are you seeing??? Where are you located (winter blended fuels that are pumped from most places right now give significantly less fuel miealage)

I see about 20.3 MPG highway with my setup.

There are alot of different factors..... Driving style, truck configurtation, axle ratios, 2x4, 4x4, standard or auto, terrian you drive through, weather, idling time so on!

I know I get some sweet mileage driving across illinois in July! But a whole lot less in the hills when it is -20.

I know with mine after I put my plate in I also put in the AFC spring kit (the lighter sping) and my mileage droped to 16 mpg and it was a lot quicker off the line. But when the fuel prices went up I wanted better mpg so I put heavier srping in and my mileage went to 19 mpg but it not as quick off the line.

Now if some out there knows how i can get the best of both worlds please chime in.

If thats the mileage your getting you probublly axle ratio of 4.10 so that would be normal for your truck , if you had 3.55 you would be around 20 mpg all the other factors mentioned here are still a factor , winter blend , idle time , driving style and conditions.

Yeah, I don't know what gears I have right now. I could check. I don't race around, so I wouldn't mind having 3.55's.

What is your average mileage? because to be honest - if you haven't kept a mileage log for at least a month (more is better), you really don't even know what your mileage is, or whether or not you need to even improve it.

And PLEASE don't tell me you are using an onboard mpg reading for your records

I've only done one mileage test, and it was 13.5 average. I just got the truck, so I'm going to keep the mileage tests running.

My wifes truck averages 19 when she drives it, gets 16 average when I drive it. I think it's cause I weight more.
