Replacing VP with P-Pump

Replacing VP with P-Pump
A friend of mine has a '98 truck with the great little VP pump that just recently died on him. Went somewhere in it,shut it off and got back in and wouldn't start. Lift pump is pushing fuel and all that long story short pump is dead. I don't think it's possible but that's not using any extreme knowledge(cause I don't have good knowledge on these pumps LOL) He's wanting to know if it would be possible to swap from the VP to a P-pump. I know in the 1st gen trucks it's actually easier to just buy a good p-pump motor than trying to change it all. Would it be the same case in this truck or would it be harder because of all the electronic parts and such on the truck now. Just asking for a little help thanks a lot!

Its not cheap and its a lot of work. Haisley Machine sells kits to do it. I think PDR might as well. If you go with a kit (which will also come with custom made inj. lines) I think your looking atleast 3grand. I don't know if it would be any cheaper buying a doner engine or not.

In hindsight, it would have been cheaper to just drop a 12v in. Could pick up an engine for around $4k, and then sold my 24v for roughly the same (the VP was still good on it). But everyone has a p-pumped 12v. Not many have a p-pumped 24v.
The electronics is the easy part. Unplug what you don't need, leave the rest. Won't even set a CEL.
