Re:??? remove my turbo
They are right, as long as you make sure you get the metal shavings out as best you can. You will be fine. I have done 5 trucks like this with no problem what so ever. Instead of the q tip, I always use a small telescoping mechanics magnet to retrieve any shavings in the manifold.

Re:??? remove my turbo
after you get as many shavings out as you can, let it idle for about a minute or two when 1st started. Anything left over will go down the exhaust instead of being sucked up into turbo.
Tim

Re:??? remove my turbo
I rarely disagree with anyone's opinions but truthfully guys think about what you are saying when intalling a pyro I don't care how much grease, and care, and use of a magnet you are going to not be able to get everything. For what its worth I would never ever attempt an install in the manifold with the turbo attached. For the little work it is to slide the turbo out of the way its a small set back for what could be an expensive ride looking for a new turbo. My 2 Cents

Re:??? remove my turbo
I just dropped a magnet down in there. I don't really see what the big deal would be if some shavings went through the turbo and out the exhaust. It's not like they are big enough to not be able to fit though the turbine blades, or traveling at a high enough velocity to damage anything since they will surely be blown out while you are idling; and the turbine is certainly made of harder material than aluminum, just to withstand the heat.
To top that off, the shavings are on the exhaust side and cannot get to the intake side of the turbo under any circumstances.

If I'm way off base here, someone please educate me.

Chris

Re:??? remove my turbo
I wouldn't be worried about a few little chips. I would think the chips would be long gone before the turbo started to reach any kind of RPM that would cause it to hurt it self. Turbos are really quite tough. I've ran BIG gas engines with turbos that have had pieces of exhaust valve go through them for a few days until I could get parts with no problems.

I've done a few pyros and....

they are always pre turbo and I've never rmoved a turbo.

the shavings that the grease doesn't catch aren't big enough to hurt a thing.
