I think I am going to go with the Python 460 HP. The local Circuit City has it for 200 installed. It has keyless entry and remote start with the diesel program to let the glow plugs cycle. The timer runs for 12 minutes and shuts off automatically before driving or after driving. So the key can be pulled out after a haul and the doors locked and closed. 12 minutes later after walking in the house and grabbing a beer the rig turns off.
Thanks for all you help. Now I have something else on the Christmas list to tick the wife off.

12 mintutes is an awful long time.

Mine is changeable, 3, 5, or 12 (maybe anything in between).

Do you guys think 12 minutes is too long?
What about for cold morning running?
It takes mine 10 minutes to thaw the windows and warm the cab to tolerable. It has been below freezing around here at night with highs in the 50's during the day. I'll have to do more checking on the timer adjustability. I don't want to pay 380 for the fancy programable remote start, keyless entry, and alarm. Like I've said before I'm a cheap bastard. I'd get off my butt and start it myself before I spent that much on a feature like that. Unless I won the lottery. I don't see that happening soon.

Phox & AA...Thanks for the web sites!

Tom,
Been calling around....got installed price on Viper 791xv of $499.00. (Same as Python 881xp...right?)They volunteered that they solder all connections.

Sounds too good to be true... Full Retail is $599.99 w/o install. Am I missing something?

That $599 is Manufacturers "Suggested" Retail Price.
They suggest it a bit high so you can see how much you are saving buying it from XXX retailer.

I think the actual price of my alarm was $370 or so.
$100 for extra switches, shop supplies (wire, connectors, etc),
and $250 for installation.

Cummins says anything longer than 10 minutes is bad.

If you have it plugged in for about 3 hours before you start it, have the defroster set to hot and about 2nd fan speed, everything should be ready to go in about 5 mintues.

I guess I'll have to drag the extention cord out. It won't hurt to leave it plugged in all night will it? I would prefer to plug it in when I get home at 1130pm and leave it until I goback to work at 7 am.

AA is the cool down timer adjustable on the 460HP? Or am I going to have to buy the 400 dollar set up?

The cool down timer is adjustable on all remote starts that have it. Yes the 791 is the EXACT same thing as an 881xp if you opened the box you could not notice the difference other than the remotes. Which by the way are about 100.00-150.00 so try to be carefull with them.. I installed a 871xp today as a matter of fact. It is two way and is 329.00 installed but has a crapy display. Cost on these Items are low. I paid 140.00 for the 881xp through an acomadation program and I know they still made money, Sorry only allowed one per year.

Are you engaging the remote start again? The same buttons you use to remote start it are not the same to turn on the turbo timer. You may have confused them. I am not sure you can select 12 min, other that a run time for when you initialy start it. You can print off an owners and installation manual from www.directed.com it will help.
