Remote Fuel Filter Question

Remote Fuel Filter Question
I.m about to install a mechnical LP taking advantage of the LP lobe on my Helix cam and I am thinking about mounting remote Fuel filters.
The problem is the easiest / best place I have seen them mounted is under the cab this would add 5-6 ft of line from the lp to the IP would this be OK.
I have 2 reasons for wanting to go this way.
1) removing my old filter will allow easier access to the primer on the new LP
2) Cost of filters drops in half

What I did on my truck was to hang a racor R490 filter under the bed near the tank, and ran good quality pushlok hose to vulcan draw straws for the pickup and return. I removed the OEM filter assembly and the pump pulled pre-filtered fuel through the heater/ screen and into the IP. Works real well and allows easier access to stuff on the engine as well as the filter.
The racor filter assy has a pump on the top that makes bleeding the system easier too.
As far as bang for the buck, the racor 90gph filters are 25$ or so each.. if you want a better deal, see if you can fit a 500FG(60GPH) or even 1000FG (90gph I think) under there. The filters can be had for around 10 bucks each on the 500FG I think. These are all waterblock, 10micron types. Difference is the FG series is a turbine housing so you pop the top off to get the filters out.
Even newer models have a clear housing and are inverted so the fuel level rises with restriction.

This is what i use with my MITUSA pump real nice setup, just splice into the inlet line and get 2 1/2" NPT to 3/8 barb fittings and some 3/8 hose and 2 clamps . And mount to the frame. Leave the OEM setup there and change once after installation. Shouldn't have to change it again since the Perma Cool is a 2 micron filter
