Reliable Power.

Hi I drive my grandpa's 2002 24 valve when I need it for work and at the moment it has a Edge drag comp, K&N cold air intake, 4 inch turbo back Magnaflow, Jasper towing transmission, and a Fass fuel replacement lift pump helping it go down the road.

I want yall's suggestions on what I should do to help it have more towing power. I'm thinking about getting the exhaust ports and manifold ported and polished when I get a better intake horn to help air in and out I just can't decide what turbo and size injector nozzles would be best along with any other upgrades that would help it.

Of course while more towing power is my goal it must be reliable power otherwise it will turn into useless effort.

Just to give you an idea of the loads this truck pulls we have a 25ft gooseneck trailer with a 5th wheel hitch and recently I've been going down the road 18,000lbs of truck trailer and load and last Wednesday I hauled 5 pallets of clay pigeons which weighed me out 24,775 lbs.

wouldn't waste the money on porting and the oem intake elbow is a good design not much gained from the high cost of aftermarket ones.. should look at a good injector,,, I would look at formula one, Dpp or SDX injectors. around 50-90 hp range for what your towing.. a good turbo like a 62/14 phat shaft. and before anything get gauges if you dont already.. if your added electronics and fuel towing need EGT, boost, fuel pressure, and trans temp.

Got gauges covered I have autometer egt, trans temp, and boost but they keep breaking so I'm looking into getting glowshift gauges.

I was going to get glowshifts. but with alot of my friends having problems with them in diesels and gassers. my guess is glowshifts are cheap for a reason. look at www.genosgarage.com they have some other good choices too. fuel pressure is important some have gotten away without one but I know more people that have killed thier 1000 $ injection pumps due to lack of pressure. so your choice on that. alot are against K/N filters for diesels they filter good for a gasser so that is your choice also

I do need a fuel pressure gauge since we already have had the ole vp44 go out.

I went with k&n cause I had a afe air intakes filter collapse on me which scared the Hell outta me when it happened.

Thank you for the site I'll give them a look.

I have a couple buddies with an array of glowshift and they are happy. I just put the elite glowshift for my FP in, it has an alarm in it to warn me if it gets too low.

If you want to do that, you need to pick up a 96, 97, or 98 12 valve, with an NV4500 manual transmission, 3500 single cab long bed 2wd. Install air bags in the rear and heavy duty tires.

Install a double disk clutch, a good exahust brake, BD's towing twin turbos, and small 5 x .012 injectors. Add 3 bottles of water wetter to the engine coolant. Bump the timing to 16 degrees, over torque the stock head bolts, and work over the stock afc and grind the plate into a #10 profile. Install 60# valve springs, and a 4K rpm governor spring kit.

Then spend $500 to upgrade the front brakes, install 1-ton chevy rear brakes or install an AAM rear axle with disk brakes from an 03-newer dodge.

I disagree it has to be a 12v.... I think any rig you put that much time and money into will kickass.

12 valves while relatively cheap to tune I don't like as much as my 24 valve I've had experience with both motors pulling big loads and my 24 seems to have more low end gunt to get the load moving.

If I could get my own dodge to own instead of using my grandpas it would be a 24 valve cause they are more refined then a twelve valve and have more of a work truck feel then a flashy commonrail.
