RASP Update

For the people who are running it, how's it working? How many miles do you have on it? I'm starting to save up for either a FASS or RASP but I want some feedback on the RASP before I pull the trigger on it. What kind of pressures are yall seeing with it? How much power do you have? Thanks for the help.

I want to know also. I have read posts from several RASP owners, and they all say it's good. I have already called DTT for price quote on it, waiting to hear back from them.

I would let the folks get at least 25,000 miles on these in hot weather use before I lept. They are a belt driven gear pump, and I do not see how they are going to solve the problem with the air bubbles in the fuel that are the biggest cause of VP stator and valve failures. More fuel is nice, but eliminating the air and water is even better!

I also am interested please let me know what the price is for the system. Could the RASP be the pump to pump the fuel through a fuel water seperator and a fuel air seperator like the FASS. Just a mechanical pump vs electrical, just a thought

It works as advertised. http://www.koengineering.com/ko%20docs/Benefits.htm
In Jan it will of be on my truck for a year. The pressure is easily adjusted via the bypass pressure valve. It comes preset at 10-12 psi at idle. I run mine at 17psi, at WOT I can see up to 22 psi. From what I have read Power by Poole and DTT are the only dealers right now. As for how much power it can supply, 750 hp so far but if time permits I will be joining the 800 club with it soon. I really don't know why anyone would consider an electric pump over the RASP system. IMHO, it is the best system available for the 24 valve.

Where did you get this fact from? The biggest failure that I have found with the Vp 44's has been with it's electronic's. I feel the problem you mention with air bubbles came about as part of a sales program. As did the hype of making 25 more hp just by using an aftermarket electric pump with a air sep system. As for eliminating water the stock OEM filter assy does that already and even gives you indication if water is present. Not to mention has a electric built in heater that is much closer to the Vp44 than the after market electric fuel pump heat exchanger style mentioned earlier. I lost my OEM Vp44 just over 100,000 miles and it too was an electronics failure. In the end it boils down to one thing. It's your money, that being said the 5 year warrantee sounds pretty good to me.

RCW, I've worked for a CAT dealer for 21 years, 14 as a mechanic. I asked several CAT engineers about the air seperation thing and they all said that there was not a problem with entrained air in the fuel, on at least CAT engines. They were engineers that delt with everything from emissions & ACERT engines to fuel systems. They said if you are pulling air into the fuel system you have other problems and what bubbles are there are usually cavitation bubbles that are displaced or fuel fills the void well before the injection proccess. I'm no expert but if the entrained air was a problem, especially with emissions and the regulations they are going to have to meet with Tier 2 and Tier 3, I think we would of seen something from the Big 3, Cummins, Caterpillar, and Detroit. I feel we have a poor fuel supply system on our trucks. I love my truck but I look at an electric pump on the engine on a long bed truck with the tank below the engine and I shake my head. My idle fuel pressure is 13.5 psi., 10 psi. crusing, and when I jump on it, it will drop to 8 psi. instantly and it keeps dropping to 3 to 4 psi. until I let off around 100 mph. I put another transfer pump on and same thing. I've also checked the gauge by another test gauge and it's right on. I like that the RASP is mechanical and better suited to draw fuel and you have the electric system still there to prime and as backup. This is the system I'll upgrade to before I BOMB my truck any further. Sorry for the long post and I hope I didn't offend any one but just food for thought. Mike
