Rancho 9000's with remote

Does anyone have the Rancho 9000 shocks with the remote "in-cab" control? Are these shocks worth the money? Is the remote worth the money?

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

I have the 9000's all round and so far they are great. As I seldom change the setting I opted to go without the remote. Two reasons: 1) too pricey 2) heard too many stories of leaks.

I have the 9000's w/ remote. My honest opinion, I wouldn't get the remote. I couldn't get it to hold air for more than a couple hours. Bought even more aftermarket parts for it from Mark's Custom Stuff and they at least hold the setting for a day now... : Probably just need to get under there and tighten up everything again.

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

I have 9000s all the way around without the remote. I had the remote on one of my CJs and it was kinda cool. Bottom line is, I don't change the settings often enough to need it, and I have heard lots of people complain about leaks.

I highly recommend the shocks - the remote isn't necessary for most people.

This guy sells custom fittings for the Rancho 9000s that I've heard people say are pretty good:

Yeah... I bought all that stuff because the Rancho plastic stuff was leaking all the time. Your looking at another $100-125 for all that.... With those it was working ok for a while, but now they leak out within about 5 hours... : I'm thinking of just removing the remote all together...

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

I had the remote on my 01' and its not going on the 04'.
I have the 9000 shocks to go on the 04' but the leaking and how seldom I used the adjustment is whats gonna keep the remote on the shelf.

;D :P

Hmm, that's bad. I've never had the Rancho shocks, where do they leak? At the shock or the controller? I've always thought all that fragile-looking tubing looked like the potential weak point.

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

I even bought the teflon tubing because the Rancho air lines are pretty chincy (sp?). Anyhow, I never crawled back under with the soapy water to figure out all the places it's leaking. Probably right at the shocks. All the stuff from Marks is really nice stuff... some of the fitting probably just loosened up from driving... seems like a PITA to keep tightening the stuff down. I think I'll fly Scotty in to rip the entire remote system out... ;D

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

I feel bad because I posted the link the first time around--sorry the stuff didn't work better. There's a buddy of his on the DiRT mailing list; I'll see if he has any suggestions about the leaks.

I'm not sure a few little brass fittings are a proper challenge for Scotty, though. Maybe he can yank the truck off the shocks and leave them sitting there all by themselves so you can remove the fittings...

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

Well... I guess I should have checked my replies to the topic before I ordered all the stuff. If I have as many problems as you guys are describing, I ditch the remote system. I sent Rancho a link to this thread just to see what they have to say about it.

Re:Rancho 9000's with remote

I have the remote along with 5000s. The remote was a totally worthless investment. The shocks leak between the plastic fitting and the body. Those third party brass fittings could possibly fix the problem, but are too expensive. Called Rancho's 800 number and they suggested putting a piece of gasket between the fitting and shock, as the fix, and even offered to send out some material to make the gaskets myself. Worthless warranty and support. Convinced me to not ever buy Rancho again.
