Ranch Hand Bumper on a 2WD Dually. Yay Or Nay?

What do you think, I have a 2wd dually and was looking for something abit nicer than the stock laramie bumper. I wanted to do a Sport conversion because it looks great but I am having a hard time finding a bumper..

Even so.. it does not offer any additional protection.

The ranch hand bumper replacement adds strength, looks great and could come in handy as a recovery point (you never know) or for hooking up a chain to when needing to pull or drag something.. stumps..cars.. etc..

Would it be a total sin to put that on my truck or what?

I've been told that they are heavy, affect your fuel mileage and put an extra load on your front end. They're also expensive! Other than that, they are nice. I have a smaller brush guard on mine. You might look into their "Farm Hand" line. Somewhat smaller & lighter.

i have the mopar brush guard on there now.. the chrome is starting to rusting in one spot and one of the plastic caps will not stay glued on the top.

Its a POS om general.

I wonder how much the fuel economy would be effected.. 1/4mpg?

I would recommend a HD Brush Guard. they do not wigh much & offer some degree of protection against Deer, Brush, Cars, stuff in the way.
May save the $6k of stuff up front, as the front bumper protects nothing, to speak of.

I have one and they are great, people see you cumming, and you will be amazed at how they won't pull out in front of you. Also when you mount it use good bolts and tack the bumper to the frame.

i have a ranch hand style front bumper on mine and i love it. it only weighs 150lbs i think it makes a 2wd look a bit more beefy. if it will help i can post a pic of my 2wd 3/4 ton. i say yay!

Personally, I say nay! I think the ranch hand bumpers are hideous. I like the looks of Road Armor, Buckstop, Alien Patrol or Fab Fours much better.

Some of the buckstops are nice.. though i prefer the ranch hand.

Road armour + Alien patrol are fugly imho and fab fours does not list a bumper for a 2001.

I plan on mounting my batteries under the truck bed so that should free up some weight. Not as much as the bumper clocks in at but it will help regulate the additional weight.

I was thinking about putting a Aliarc pickup bar on mine (check photos 4 and 8) I just prefer them to the ranch hand, etc
